  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Petcock Shut-OFF Valve Leaking On My TE 449

If i didn't have bad luck, I probably wouldn't have any at all.

Tonight I put by battery back in my bike. I wanted to fuel her up too. She's been sitting in my dining room since October. Tomorrow morning I planned on installing my full oil recirculation kit and pc-5, and going for a ride.

So I open up the petcock to the gas tank no problem. I go to open the petcock under the reserve tank, and it stuck. I must have twisted it on too tight when I was getting ready to store it for the winter.

I couldn't get it off with my fingers, so I used pliers, and I ended up damaging the cap screw. It was leaking gas all over the place. This cap screw thing is ruined. I am so pissed at myself for overtightening it in the first place!

Can you just buy the replacement cap screw thing with the rubber thing inside it, that you shut the fuel off with? Or do you have to buy the whole new valve assembly that screws on up underneath the reserve tank. Does anyone know anything about this.

Does Zip Ty Racing carry this part? I am trying to get it fixed as soon as possible. My dealer is closed until tuesday, and it will take them a while to get it to me.

Thanks for any help. :banghead:

We might have one is stock, you can give us a call on Monday. You will need the whole valve. For future reference, don't close the valves at all. The only reason to close is if you were removing them with fuel inside, but you would siphon it out anyway.

I can't remember how my son's 511 was setup- I think both petcocks are the thumb-screw (radiator drain) style... if so, swap 'em and maybe solder up the mangled one (after determining the swap will work, of course). I'd probably want the working petcock on the tank that I remove the most; the main tank tank I'm thinking here- and also note that the header tank can use the hose to prevent leaking by raising it above the fuel level, during removal. So if you solve the leaking petcock issue you have some options.

But you should get a new petcock eventually, I should point out- and if they're in stock at ZTR, you'd have it in hand before you could do all these minor mods.

one mo' thing: we used to ride every Wednesday out at North Shore/Rainbow Ridge.... but that's died off in the last couple of years (& we'd meet about 1/2mile before the Deer Cr bridge). Everybody still rides, for the most part, but we're just more disorganized nowadays. C'mon out and say hi sometime- this winter the riding has been off-the-hook (no snow!).
