• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Plastic tank prep

I just bought a Great White, a 1981 KTM 495. They also use the White Plastic and have the same issues with browning. I have no idea where the guy got it, but its got a plastic cover over the stock tank. Who ever made the cover must of used a stock one for the mold, as its a snug fit. Once the Gas Cap is on you wouldn't realize that its a separate plastic cover. I have never seen nor herd of one of these before.

IF ITS DIRT ON THE OUT SIDE SOFTSCUB AND ELBOW GREASE DOSE WONDERS IF ITS BROWN FROM THE INSIDE FROM OCTANE BOOSTERS YOUR SCREWED PAINT IT

I see lots of guys are back sanding from fine to very fine sand paper and then polishing tanks. not sure if this will work if the stain is from the inside.

Scraping with a blade does not always work. Bleaching does not always work. Painting isn't a satisfactory solution as the fuel will get to it sooner or later. The best solution is to find a good tank elsewhere (they are out there but it takes time to find then) or else make a white perforated decal that covers the sides and top of the tank. MXM in UK do them but it is easy to do yourself if you can get the white perforated sheet decal from a company that makes motorcycle decals.

The premix stains are through the plastic so to sand them will thin the plastic to the point of splitting

yeah, I figured that would be an issue! a lot of the jap tanks discolour from the outside so its an effective repair for an xr / kdx colored tank
