• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Plastic Tank replacement for 81-82

1982 XC 430

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hello all, I'm looking for a replacement Plastic Tank for my 82 250 XC. This would be a Tank to be used on a rider and not a restored bike. I allready have a restored Bike with a nice tank and a couple of extra Tanks with minimum damage to them. But I don't want to use them on my rider and smash them up. The Plastic Desert Tanks of the late 70's and early 80's looked just owful in there day and not a bit better today. I want one with the Husky Shape and I plan on installing the Crome colored knee Decals and H Decal up front. No it won't look good up close from a distance one will at least know I'm rideing a Husky. Thanx...

I'm not sure what is/was available, but I have several 84 Husky tanks (white with the indent for the logo). They need to be sanded and cleaned up to remove plastic oxidation and superficial checkering. I also have one of the after market tanks in red (I think it is referred to as a "malcolm smith desert tank". I believe the plastic in the red tank is pretty good, but I think the petcock was not in the best of shape. I'll be curious as to what you find for your 82 and how it fits-up. If you can't find a better match for your bike, I would take $10 plus shipping for any of the tanks I have.

I have a white one like what norm described. PM me for super cheap deal. the # 11371. few years old but fine.

I have a brand new Clarke CR sized tank/red in color for sale. See my ad in the Vintage classifieds under "cleaning shop"

OK so my new 3.3 Gallon Tank from Clark showed up today. It kinda has the Husqvarna look to it. It should look better with Decals on it. I have been told that if You are to put Decals on a Plastic Tank you need to seal the inside first. Anybody herd of this before? If so what product would I use? Thanx....

Don't seal the inside. You are fighting a losing battle. Polyethylene is a very hard plastic to get anything to stick to, especially on the inside. Have speed and sport yamaha make you a set of wicked tough decals. Or have a modern bike decal manufacturer make them out of the thick stuff with slits cut in them for breathing.

Well I now have a new Tank from Clark, I have installed the Decals and am ready to Seal the inside with the Caswell Product. However I have found that I can't get the Gas Cap to screw on with out Cross Threading. When I turn the Tank upside down Water Pours out past the Seal. So I called Clark Thanxgiving week and they wern't answering. I'm now out of state for the next couple of weeks. The Threads look good on the Tank and the Cap. I'm wondering if I got the wrong Cap.

Can someone explain to me this whole issue about decals, plastic tanks and coating the inside? The need to coat the inside of a tank made from modern plastics seems odd considering my sons 2005 KLX 125 has giant factory decals on the side and no coating on the inside that I can see?

The thought is that the Plastic Tanks will bleed Fuel Vapor threw the Plastic, an dislodge the Decals. When one looks at most of the OEM bikes in the last 20 years or so the Fuel Tank is hidden under Plastic Sheilds wich hold the Decals. This isn't to say that Plastic Tanks havn't come from Factorys with Decals applied just look at the late 80's Huskys. There is talk that the Plastic Tank era we are in now may end due to emissions in the future if the EPA has there way.

I just thought I'd let everybody know that every once and a wile I get something done. Clark sent me a new Cap and I got it the next day. The side decals are from VRM Racing in Portland Oregon You can find them on ebay be sure to let them know what Year Bike You have. Once again the Tank is a 3.3 and at first glance looks like the original. Now I'm not rideing wondering when I'm not going to Ruin a Aluminum Tank that can't be replaced.DSC_4690.JPG

I've never had that problem with tank decals on any plastic tanks I've installed them on. Husky, Yamaha, Suzuki -- all plastic tanks and none of them ever fell off. How? -- It's because I purchased and used tank decals manufactured by MXM. They have small circular perforations in them which allow the decal to basically "breathe" thereby avoiding the dreaded tank decal decay that you all speak of. Yes, there a little bit more expensive, but they're worth it. I also run them (MXM nonperforated decals!!) on all of my Maico metal tanks...I've have had one set on a Maico that I restored in 2005, and have ridden and raced countless times and they still look brand new. Here's the site: http://mxm.co.uk/?page_id=4

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
