    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

possible "semi" drowning trying to cross a river

Hey guys, I want some advise and what to do next..

I went into a ride about 200km, at the very half of the ride, I had to go through a river, the river was high enough to reach about 10cm below the seat level, the bike passed the river with the engine off to avoid water to enter into the filter and the motor. But anyhow, the water got in. At the shore on the other side of the river, I tried to turn the bike on but it did not start. When trying that, the motor was locked, starter was not able to move it, nor the kickstarter. We put the bike with the front wheel upwards, in gear, pushed it to move the piston, then tried again to start it. After some cycles, it started with no problems. Then, from there 100kms back to home on single track, trails, and gravel, no issues, but, what should I do next? DO I have to do anything with the engine or take care of something else besides changing the oil?
 
i assume this bike is EFI? if it ran right after the dousing your most likely ok pull the mag cover give it a blast of compressed air and a spritz of WD40 if you see any sign of water how tight are all your electrical connections dielectric grease , electrical tape or that spray on distributor water proofing the jeepers use will seal that stuff up good do that after you know its all clean and dry change the oil clean the AF make sure it didnt find its way into the gas tank
 
Run it a bunch with a few very short oil changes. You need to get the bike warm/hot to help evaporate any water in the motor. Just get it warm take a bunch of long mellow rides with it to get the oil up to temp and burn off any moisture.

I would also change the spark plug and undo every connection and blow compressed air in them and leave them disconnected so they can dry. This will help the corrosion stop. Also would pull both wheels and dry out the bearings/regrease them. Check the brake fluid and make sure no water got in.

Easy stuff.

Worst thing you can do in my opinion is let the motor sit after drowning it, can give the engine oportunity to develop rust or corrosion if the water is sitting on a bearing surface gear etc. Much better to put good fresh oil in it and let it splash around and clean everything :)
 
If you haven't drained the oil and it appears light tan in color it has water mixed in. Follow the advise above with continuous changes until the oil stays dark brown. Do it ASAP..
