  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Race tech spring weight calculations question

teuchter

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have a 2011 TXC449 and was thinking of increasing the weight of the rear spring for trail and supermoto riding. I used the race tech page to determine my spring weight and was surprised to find such a heavy weight specified for 185lb rider:

So I cross checked with the 2011 TE449 with all the same inputs and it seems to specify a more reasonable spring weight:

Does anyone know the reason for this? Is this a race tech calculation error or am I missing something?

So I spoke with race tech. They agreed the TXC spring weight calc is wrong and advised I used the TE449 page.

Zip-Ty sells race tech springs. I'd give them a call see what they think and order through them. It's not that the race tech calculator may be off but more that if anyone, Zip-Ty knows 449/511's specifically the suspension set up. Either way good luck.

Paul's (race tech) calculator is off, besides, it is only for reference. Typical spring weights are much less. Txc uses closed cartridge system, so heavier springs is advised. Contact Ty Davis for exact racing specifications.

Do you know what your stock spring ratings are for your TXC?

I've been trying to find out what they are for my '13 TE449 and seems like nobody knows.

I think I need to go with heavier springs but cannot be certain until I know what the stock forks and rear shock are.

Thank you. The race tech site doesn't have a stock spring rate for the MY13 would it be reasonable to presume that the MY11 figures would the similar to that of the MY13?

For any of you interested that are military, fire, or police they offer 25% off. Take a picture or copy the ID card and then email it to them. After that call and order

I wouldn't be so sure. The suspension was shortened after '11 as many complained it was too tall and it helped with handling.

Bugger! Its ridiculous that kayaba can't let one know what their stock spring rate is for the MY13 TE449?
I don't remember the spring rates, but Ty would know. Send us an email or call and we can tell you specifically. I am not sure if the spring rates are the same for 2011 to 2012-14 due to the rear shock and frame change in that time period.

Magic, thanks, I'll call tomorrow.

I read in another thread that the Race Tech spring rate tool was faulty ie putting out incorrect values for rider vital statistics - do you know anything about that?

The shock was shortened by 4mm but the spring weight is the same.[/quote]

Thank you, that seems to be the general consensus so you're probably spot on.

Paul's pretty brilliant when it comes to suspension, we work with him a lot. But his online calculator is for reference and we run our springs on the light side of it's recommendations.

When you call, ask for Ty.
