  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rear back plate bushings 78

Auto Lover ...
I replaced the rear backplate bush and sleeve not long ago. This got rid of any movement when applying the rear brake. I have done maybe 150 miles, and I can see movement when pushing on the brake lever.
There is no play within the bush/sleeve in the backplate. Does the brass sleeve wear where it touches the wheel bearing making it a few thou shorter and allowing end float hence the movement ??
Anyone have any ideas/solutions ?

Good Morning Ian, my 77 370 has a rather floppy brake plate, she is due to come to the front of the shed, and I will have an investigate then. Other bike seem fine and I change the rear wheel regularly from legal to illegal tyre!!

Started looking at the bike last night, the brake plate is worn where the bush fits, so though the bush is reasonable on the spindle the plate wobbles on the bush to such an extent there is now a cooling slot:(
I will post a photo later in week.

Investigated a bit further and the brake plate has worn badly where the bush has been slopping about, so I know need another brake plate,:( hint hint. It was so much easier when Alan Brown was with us, God bless him.

Hmmm.... brake plates are one thing I am short on.
Thing is, my plate is good with no wear to the plate itself. I fitted the new bush and sleeve a while ago as stated above. Now there seems to be a small amount of end float on the backplate with the wheel in place and tight. This then lets the plate tilt when the brake is applied.
The only reason I can see for the end float wear would be where the bush contacts the wheel bearing.
