  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rear sprocket and chain 14 TE 310 R

Seeking input on sprocket and chain manufacturers, along with chain type and length.

The bike came with 13 & 40. I am looking for less clutch work, more tractor effect if possible, and still handle short asphalt runs. I am thinking 48 from reading others comments.

I like the Supersprox in that it is not entirely aluminum. Have not found where it will fit this bike. Did find a JT Steel Sprocket.

I have come across what appears to be two different types of chains.
RDO O-Ring 520x114 with windows in the side plates and an ORH X-Ring 520x114. The bike has a Regina O-Ring Chain. It does not have windows.

What brand sprocket and chain do you like for your TE 310? And what size chain is needed for 13 & 48 sprockets? Will a new chain guide be required for the larger sprocket?

Dirt Tricks 50 and Regina ORN6 O-Ring Chain/120 links. If you are going 48, 2 teeth doesn't do much so I'd go 50. I used a 45, contemplated a 47/48 but said WTF and got the 50. Cruise at 45 on pavement or faster for a mile or two. The Dirt Tricks is steel. Zip Ty sells them also.

I liked the 13/48 for all around riding. I also ran a Rekluse which helped in the tite stuff. I did also run 13/50 for the first season but the bike revved too high on the road sections for my comfort level. I eventually gave up on the bike due to lack of low end grunt and close trans ratio. I am too big for a 310 and now run the FE501 which is perfect for my stature.

In the UK, the bike comes standard with 13/50

I am running 12/50, but the 12 tooth gearbox sprocket is a little too small for me as the chain rubs well on the swinging arm.
I do a lot of slow stuff and the gearing is just about right for me.

On the road, it will cruise quite happily all day at 50, and blast up into the 60's if needed with this low gearing on.

I'm looking at changing to a 13/53 (or a 54 if I can find one) which will give me the same overall gearing without the chain rub.

13/45 and a Rekluse now, although i think it would be fairly rideable even without Rekluse except tight single track.
60@6700 or so.

Thanks for the informed tips guys. Rekluse sounds good, someday. So I shound be good with the stock chain guide and any rear sprocket mentioned.

Riding is a mixture hills, ruts, roots, rocks, single track (not trials-like super slow/technical). Still have to get out on the flats and some asphalt. No faster than 55. Don't want to overextend the tiny sump.

I run 13/45 for dual-sport and 13/47 for tighter stuff. IMO, the clutch on this bike is so good and the low-end has plenty of snap for this combo. I do have the FMF powercore slip on and a JD tuner and these two mods added some bark on the bottom end. But again, this is for my riding conditions and style. I can also use the same chain as it puts the rear wheel back further if I am riding the higher speed DS stuff for added stability and then it moves fwd with the 47 tooth for a bit quicker handling.

I bought a Renthal R3-2 520 X 120 O-Ring Offroad MX Drive Chain that had 120 links and fitted it to the bike with the 47 tooth in place. Sorry, I don't remember how many links I removed. This chain has performed well with minimal stretch so far.
