  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rebuild the Engine on the 2006 TE 250...Philly Suburbs

Hi All
As the title says....i need to look into my bike this winter. I bought this at the start of the year used. After every hard ride i see a deposit of oil arnd the engine case and sometimes the exhaust smokes. So i think i might have to redo some of the stuff on this bike.
I know the simplest stuff to do is pay the Husky mechanic, but i intend to learn more abt the engine, is there someone in the area who is knowledgable enough and would like to do the same on his bike, that i can tag along and work and learne.
Winter would be the best time since there is nothing much to do.
Any help appreciated.

In terms of oil seeps around the cases, you may have an easily fixable leak that doesn't require major engine disassembly. For example, I get a regular weep around the ignition cover on my '07, and I just hit it with the pressure washer when I wash the bike and forget about it. I also had a pretty good leak around the electric starter motor last year, and removing the motor and cleaning up the o-ring seal cleared that one up. That leak was a little worrying, because it seeped down under the starter motor, and backwards beneath the coolant resevoir and down the back of the cases. I was thinking it was a leak between the case halves, but it was coming from the starter motor o-ring seal.

In terms of smoke, when is it smoking? If it's during starts, especially cold starts and it seems to be worst when blipping the throttle, you might be in the realm of normal. My '07 TE 250 has done this from new.

If it's lots of smoke, then by all means, tear down the top end and inspect. If it's just when blipping from idle, it may just be unburned excess fuel from the accelerator pump.

Lots of white smoke makes you wonder about coolant/head gaskets leaking. Blue smoke makes you think oil leak, probably rings/valve guides/seals. Black smoke is excess unburned fuel, possibly from the AP depending on when you see it.

I'm in Medford, NJ, and I have a bit of experience with tearing down the top end on these motors. It's really not too hard, as long as you keep track of all the parts.

Good luck!

thanks dfeckel......will do the wash..i have two more rides to go for the season...shenandoha and then the meteor..(if my wife allows me)....after that i will be on vacation untill the end of November...so i will start pulling the stuff out of the bike...check the valves etc....and start posting pictures...hope fully if something goes south i will check for answers here.....
