    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Removing the Ohlins shock Reservoirs

Hello, I'm in the process of having a couple of Rims re anodized gold and I would also like to get my Shock Reservoirs in on the same order. I have let the Pressure out, removed the Wire retainer Ring and the end Cap. By looking at the pictures I would think that the Reservoir Bodys would now pull off with out removing all the guts out. But its not happening, I'm going to destroy the body if I work it any harder than I am. It looks as though they are not Threaded on, just pushed on over a O-Ring. I'm not going to rebuild these myself, I'm going to send them out. But I would like to send them with the Bodys redone. By the way these are ITC's and yes I know the Reservoirs arn't suposed to be gold. Thanx...
 
I would be very surprised if the cans were not threaded. I've never had to remove them, but given the mechanics of the shock, I would think it has to be threaded.

Anyway, I'm sure others will chime in with an answer.
 
Ok so I found the corect size screw and have since pulled the Piston out. Not that it would make any diffrence. The Shock Manuals I have are not concernd with removeing the Resevoir as its generaly left in place with a normal rebuild. It have Heated things up a bit and put a Strap Wrench on it trying to twist it. I have tried a 2 1/2" Pipe over it and tried to rock it.
 
The Ohlins piggy back reservoirs are screwed in, righty tighty, etc. They seal with an o-ring, are assembled with some kind of red thread locker at the factory and are very difficult to remove even with heat. I have never tried to preserve them when I do replacements. I just drill a 3/8" hole through reservoir body and insert a #3 Phillips screwdriver as a torque bar while applying heat from a mapp torch. For installation I use two strap wrenches on the reservoir and clamp the upper mount into a non marring vice, again with the red threadlocker. I use Loctite 271. The replacement o-rings and reservoir bodies are still available from Ohlins USA.

They do thread on, we have a clamp block the correct size as not to damage the surface. When rebuilding these shocks we always screw out the reservoirs and the main tube and replace the O-rings, if you like me to rebuild i can send back the parts to be anodized and reasemble when the parts are anodized, we have a good setting for the ITC's and parts in stock, give me a call 908 637 6385.
