• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rode a new 350 EXC

AA Class
I went out to McCain Valley today for a ride. The weather was perfect. One of my buddies bought a new KTM 350 EXC Friday, and today was its maiden ride. He had previously owned an 08 TE510. He had quite a few problems with his Husky, and finally sold it for something Orange. Anyway I got to ride it and It's really nice. The motor is smooth, and the wide ratio tranny is perfect. I've ridden a few other KTM's and I just didn't get what the big deal was. This one is different. I couldn't find anything to gripe about. I rode it on the fire road and into the single track. And again, it's nice.

I haven't ridden a X-Lite 310, but I have ridden the 250. The part of the KTM that I'd like to figure out a way to swap into mine is the tranny. The dealer re-geared my buddies bike to 13/48. First gear is lower than my 250's (geared 12/48), and sixth allowed easy cruising at 60 on the road. The 08' 530 and 07' 450 that other friends own are nice but abrupt with their power delivery (more so on the 530). The 350 felt like the ideal compromise. I'm not going to sell my bike(s) to get one. I really like my 250 and 610. However, if I were in the market I would be very tempted. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Husky offer a close ratio box in the CR's, a wide ratio box in the WR's, and a combination of the two it the OR's back in the 70's and 80's? First through third were wide, and fourth through sixth were close. Seems like a good idea to me.

I have a good buddy with one (KTM350). Great bikes. the 310 is really nice too but the KTM has a much more usable transmision and big tank options. Two things killing the sales... for years now. Hello husky?

Yes it seriously pis:censored: me off that a orange bike comes with a decent stock tank and a true wide ratio tranny. Husky where is my stock big tank and my 6-speed tranny that came stock in my old wxe 250????????????? Lets think about direct injection and a hydraulic clutch and a killer frame at the same time and maybe, Houdini will magically appear out of no where.

I think all brands should realise that a lot of riders do not go around in circles on a track they all should have a option of bigger tank and gear box option

The TC can keep the small tank. A Dual sport needs a 150-200 mile range. Not 60-70 miles. I hit reserve at 52 miles last weekend...

ive ridden the 350 as well but i still felt the fourstroke gyroscope effect in tight single lane stuff. niiiccee motor, what the 450 should have been. ive only riddeen a 310 in trying circumstances but found it too snappy and easy to stall 9short stroke and no flywheel) Im too old for the slightly harder to change direction 4 strokes, can really feel the weight so will stick to the 300 too stroke. an ideal machine for all terrains. it has an electric leg eh!. untill husky fit one to their 2-'s they will lose a lot of sales. once you brake stall a bike on a slippery downhill and just punch the button to pull it all back together, you will never look at a bike without a button. same as the stall on the tricky hill, tippy toe balance for 1 sec, hit button ride off... try doing that with a kick starter. not. oh yeh, racing?? le mans start.. sensational. outbrake someone but stall it? no worries, just press the button and hold your place, not with a kicker.. its a compression lock slide to last place.... buttons are good

I know a few guys that have bought 350's, at least two have already sold them, and the other two say they like them with a but, which is I guess they can be a handful in tight woods.

I've suggested this in a post before & I think it should be raised again:
There are about 8500 users on this site & most of the active ones seem to agree that the trans & fuel tanks need to be re-thought(at a minimum offered as options thru the hard parts catalog). With the tools & contacts we have today, I don't see why we can't use a site such as this to communicate with the factory and tell them directly what we(as a community) want. When a company such as Husky builds maybe say 10,000 bikes a year or so, 8500 people directly telling them what to build should be a message worth listening to & acting on. It's also a big enough market to more than justify the development budget to develope & sell these items. We can also tell the factory that we're not interested in letting the short-sighted fuss-budget cost accountants get in the way here, so kick them out of the development labs.

To wit- in the mean time a few smart folks such as Wallybean have taken the initiative to develope what people want such as the genius WB165.
If Husky doesn't listen to the market, there's nothing stopping the market from stepping up and building for themselves what they want. It wouldn't be hard to take the WB design and get it manufactured in quantity by Rotax or ?, then buy ready made chassis' from Husky or? (such as what CH Husky used to do and HM Honda does & $ervice Honda in the US) Assemble them and sell to a ready made market.......

As it is now, we all post beefs on this site, or grumble quietly to ourselves & Husky may or may not be on here reading - we really don't know.(it's not like when Scot H. used to be here all the time) I suggest sending this info directly to those in charge.....

The problem is Italy. They don't seem to understand or care for our need for a big tank and wider trans. Scott H I know was trying to get them to understand this years ago. We got .4 more gallons to make it a small tank in stead of a really small tank. They know they just don't seem to care. I mean we have shouted this for years and said we would even buy the stinking tank just offer it.

Understood. However, it's one thing to have one guy yelping, a whole 'nother thing when 8500 are.......
