• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

This thought occurred to me the other day, so I decided to start a poll.

I usually ride by myself. Not because I'm antisocial mind you. It just seems that since I finally have an awesome dual sport, I tend to just gear up and go.

There are limitations I put on myself so that I don't tackle trails that might put me in a precarious situation.

So what do you guys n gals do? Please vote and comment accordingly.

I like to go at my own pace (usually), so I go it alone. In addition I ride where I live a lot and often times there is no one else here.

So nobody thinks riding alone is a nono?

Been there, done that (without so much as a mobile phone back in the day). Spent a bit of time on a little Greek island (it looked like a James Bond set - just a mountain surrounded by sea) and had quite a few scrapes and a couple of long walks, but nobody died and nothing caught fire.

Coffee makes a good point about riding at one's own pace - I'm kind of like that too. I'll stop to take pictures, explore on foot, or just enjoy the view. I grew up on a farm with plenty of good riding territory but most of my mates were into roadbikes. Now I'm 45 and most of my mates don't have bikes at all, so the solo thing is just part of who I am, I think. At least in the UK we don't have to worry about snakes (I'm minded of that other thread). :)

i go alone but usually find someone to chase or roost with already out riding. its always way more fun to battle and share the experience. but i dont miss picking, up dropping off, waiting for bikes to be made ready, cleaning others spooge/trash fries/seeds out my rig evry weekend. i like it alone. so just meet me there and we'll braaaap!!

Back in my youth, I went for a short trail ride by myself on my Honda MR175, just a short ride close to home. I hit a telephone pole that was laying on the ground in the tall grass. I laid there for a long time unconscious (don't actually know how long) before I finally woke up and was able to get the bike started and rode home. Of course the whole family was out for the day. Anyway, my parents came home around midnight, took one look at me and took me to the hospital. I broke all of the ribs on my right side, broke my collar bone, two fingers on my left hand, and had a cerebral concussion. It also cracked a brand new Bell R/T helmet. I was lucky to be alive!
I'm a little skittish about riding alone now, but I still do some.
BTW, I had to sleep in a chair most of that summer because I couldn't lay down due to the broken ribs.

7.62 & Coffee do sum it up quite well. I like to stop and smell the posies and sage brush too.

I remember going riding as a kid with my Dad and Uncle. We would load the van with the bikes, and go out to the riding areas to meet with another family I grew up riding with. It was quite the accomplishment to get good enough to go on the ”Big Boys ride”

I also have fond memories of the big family train rides. You know the kind...one adult to lead and a couple of the faster kids behind, followed by the little kids and one more adult who knows the planned route riding sweep.

While those memories are sweet, I do really enjoy cruising along and deciding in an instant on where to go.

I'm not opposed to riding w/small group from time to time but prefer like others have stated to do their own thing at their pace. I find myself kind of hanging it out there a bit more when in a group setting vs. a more conservative approach when rolling solo. I have no reservations as to how far away or distance I travel as I feel seasoned in the number of years experiences and have confidence in my mechanical aptitude to keep my 2 stroke running. Throttlechix rule! :)

So nobody thinks riding alone is a nono?

I don't have too many friends close by that ride. And, if it comes down to going solo or not riding, I'm going solo. I live minutes from some pretty good stuff (Pala, Elsinore and the like) so I'm never far from help should I need it.

I ride solo on my 7 mile loop behind the house. With a phone call back to the house, I could have help in 10-15 min. Other than that, I never ride without a buddy. I've got too much at stake right now...

If I want to ride most times times my buddies can't. We are all mid 50's with families. So I'm left to go it alone. Last June I was on a solo ride and crashed, fractured 3 vertebrae in my neck and upper back. All I can say is God was looking out for me cause I rode back to my house with out any memory of it. Wife and daughter were at the beach. Still riding but donning a leatt neck brace.

I try not to. I might go for a little trail ride now and then but nothing serious. Hell, I need my brothers just to start my bike :)

I either ride too fast, and too much technical for slowpokes, or I ride too slow and not technical enough for the hardcores....and I'm sort of an explorer, picture taker and flower sniffer as well, so I end up alone a lot of the time. I'm getting too old to ride alone, I think....but it isn't always easy to find somebody with my style and interests.:excuseme:

I am still laughing at that one wait4me. I ride alone but take it down two notches. I would rather have someone with me, but I am down to two riding partners and it does not always line up. cell phone and txt the route I am taking.

Well, it's like this. My riding is much like my sex life. If I didn't go it alone, I'd never get to do it much :censored:
