• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

Searched for frame/motor # identification.

Can I identify a bike thru frame and or motor # on the forum? (A search didn't help.)

I'm looking at what's supposed to be a 250, maybe a 1978, with frame # WN 12113 and a motor # 2089-0393. (But, it has a blue tank ..... 175?).

Can anyone help me?
I'd sure appreciate it !
Thanks, dave

Hello from SWeden

Maybe can WN be or 1982.And the motor 2089 WR -82 XC-82,and the 1983 has same motornumber WR and XC
Tjosan

WN = 82 WR
motor 2089 could be 82-84 WR 250 motor but with a sequence # of 0393 would say it is a 1982 WR250 with original motor.

Does it by chance look like this?

Hope this helps

Thanks Joe,
The picture link doesn't work . I'll take pictures when I go see it. I found the info I needed at huskyclub.com/id.htm and it seems it's a '82.
Now I'm full of questions about the WR model of that year.
-Was it the same basic motor as the CR and XC ?
* Just different gears? Six speed? Hard to change to CR ratio's? Worth doing for recreational racing?
* A bigger/ external ignition flywheel? A Motoplat?
* How hard to source a carb? (it's missing).
- I assume a larger tank than CR?
- Suspension quite different from CR or XC?

Thanks to all,
Dave in Delaware

Sounds like too many questions and you want to get rid of it for cheap:applause: ....no problem bring it to the ECEA Deleware Enduro later this month and I will gladly pay to take it off your hands.

Ha, May 13th, .... be there. Our enduro's an event! Little different strategy this year... hope it's well recieved.

I COULD have it there... but it'll likely be in rebuild status. I HOPE it'll be at Unadilla Vintage weekend June 1,2,3. Thats the goal.

So about the bike questions ....anybody help enlightening me?

Dave

Thank you sir.

This bike is missing it's carb and exhaust pipe.
* What specifications will I need to know to get a new Mikuni.
* Can anybody steer me towards a useable pipe.... new or otherwise?

Thanks, Dave.

For recreational riding, you are better off using the WR transmission. Good used CR transmissions are difficult to find and would support a rumor I heard a few years ago that vintage racers started buying WR engines because most CR's were purchased to race and mostly worn out. The WR has an external rotor with (2) 70watt outputs if you have 2 yellow wires coming out of the right case which by spec would been SEM, although I seem to have a few WR Motoplats with dual yellow wires. Sourcing a carb is easy. Just buy a new VM38 Mikuni from a dealer through Sudco. You can find some jetting specs in Vintage Tech under Service Bulletins 1981-1987(?) The deep blue tank is about 2.8 gal while the red CR tank is slimmer ad about 2.2 gal. The WR had about 9.8 in travel front while the CR/XC are close to 2in longer. The 82 Ohlins shocks may not be different from the CR as the CR has a longer swingarm but the lower shock mount to sw pivot distances seem to be identical

This website is awesome... thanks to member knowledge base. Often, questions asked on other bike sites go unanswered.... due to lukewarm interest in others. Again, thanks.

I do plan on using the WR gearing... (hope the bikes tranny is ok), by appearance this bike has not been treated kindly.But it's all I got and it's a start.

I wonder if I should buy the automatic Husky he's also got? Same vintage.... around a '82... think it was a 420 ? ? Auto. As spare parts for my bike?

Last Husky I owned/raced was a 1975 250CR GP.... I'm getting excited.

yor carburetor for yor bike is =
MIKUNI VM 38 mm :
MAIN JET =400/430
IDLING JET=45
TROTTLE=2.0
NEEDLE=6DH3
NEEDLE HELDER= 4
AIR = 1/1/2

Does anyone know if an 84 250WR pipe would work on Dave's 82WR? I think it will, but I would appreciate a verification
I have a spare for you Dave.
