• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Shiping Vintage Bikes or Parts

1982 XC 430

Husqvarna
AA Class
OK so there is a Parts Bike that I want to buy but its 1/2 way or more across the Country. I have called a couple of Shippers Wolverine was the Cheapest at $550 and Alaska Air the most at $850. If one were to break the Bike down to 4 box's UPS could Ship them for way less. A Trucking Company would be less but as soon as they find out its a Motorcycle then the Rate goes up. They are exspecting a new Harley. So can I just remove the Wheels and lay it on a Pallet and call it Motorcycle Parts and just pay for 250 lbs wich should only cost $200 or so. Somebody must of tryed this before. It is Michigan State to Washington State so the chance of buming a ride isn't good.

UPS wanted $150 just to ship a bare frame and swingarm to Calif. I was suggested greyhound at one time also?

Buzz down here again and get that 82 250XC project I have!

I hadn't thought about Greyhound I once got a Tailgate for a Pickup cause thats the way the Shipper wanted to do it. So I just checked with Greyhound and Yes that would be the way to go if One could break the Bike down so that No one Box weighed more than 100lbs wich is there max. $ 164 sure sounds good from Terminal to Terminal for 250 lbs. 2/3rds the way accross the Country. By the way I just had a Frame Shipped UPS from Texas to Wa for $45. With UPS as with all Shippers a Busness who Ships a lot gets a much better deal than You and I.

If the seller is willing to break it down, It would be my preference to UPS it in parts. You can find a box to fit the frame in the trash bin at a body shop. They get lots of body panels that are just about that size. I get wheel sized boxes from my local Harley shop, they always have aftermarket wheels coming in.

i'm a UPSer. Meaning i work for UPS. There is a weight limit, remember it has to be handled by another person. I've seen many frames bubble wrapped from junk yards shipped. I once bought a honda nighthawk frame from a Boston junkyard ,it came on a greyhound . Took up two seats not kidding!

Just for everybody's info I ended up Flying to the Mid West and Picking up the Bike Myself. Ok so I had other busness to do nearby. I disasembled the Bike and Boxed it up and Shipped UPS. For whatever reason my GPS kept taking me to Greyhound Stations that were gone. I threw away the Fenders Seat and Tires. It cost just Short of $400 to ship UPS. I took the Wheels in my Lugage so they wern't included. Then there is the Cost of Boxes and Foam and Tape. I had a quote of $550 from Wolverine and even that would of been a better way to go even with me being there anyway. Just to make it worse the Bike wasn't what the buyer said it was.

If you're referring to Matt Cehan of Wolverine Transportation Logistics, LLC, I've used him on numerous occassions and would not consider using anyone else. Prices were reasonable and he's a specialist on motorcycle transport.
