    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Should Headlight Be On Before Starting?

There are two light bulbs in the Terra and also my '08 TE 250.

On my 2008 Husky TE 250, when the key is on, before starting the engine, only the small light is ON.

On my '13 Husky TR 650 Terra, both lights go on when the key is on, before starting the engine.

I thought that was a slick feature on the TE 250 because it reduced the battery drain prior to starting.
Is this normal behavior for the Terra?

I wonder why the little light is there? Sure would be nice to have it work like the TE 250. It also has a kick starter, which the TR 650 does not, so consequenses of a run down battery in the middle of nowhere are not good. Some KLR guys have added a headlight OFF switch to help reduce the battery load when starting if need be. I might do this to soften my paranoia when I can't find a current bush to plug into in the wild.

My 2006 TE250 has a little light too, it is quite handy if the main bulb burns out while riding. I have been assuming that is the reason they are there.

No... I would not want a less than perfect battery on my tr650... a lot of things rely on it.
 
On european bikes the small bulb is a legal requirement ( in the UK its commonly known as a sidelight although its official term is Position Lamp...it needs to be capable of operating if the Healdight faiils and also for certain conditions when parking ( on the terra thats operated from the ignition key...)

UK bike currently have All Day Headlights as its an EU homologation legal requirement although the UK hasnt signed up to it so its a 'gentlemans agreement'
