• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sick day!

Ok so I'll start with being honest with you guys cause I like you. My being sick tomorrow is fake lol. I reserved a rental of a TC449 for tomorrow! I'm so excited! I'll also be renting the TC 250 early next month! After I get off of work tonight it's off to buy my packing list. Sorry, just had to tell someone about it lol.

Without giving away too much ... What does it cost to rent a 449 bike for a day?

Ride safe and don't extend your time off work :) ...

It's 95 for the day at big D morsports in woodland Park Colorado. There seems to be some great trails within 10 minutes. I'll get some pictures if I remember lol. I just found an ap that should allow my wife to track me. Just a precaution.

95 sounds very reasonable to me ... Thats almost 3,000 per month if ridden every day ... In any event, the bike should be payed for in a year depending on breakdowns and such ... I'm thinking of trying something like that here but with older 2T machines that I can rent to the locals for ~20-25$ per day maybe...Lots of people here have never seen what is in the mountains and these guys are adventurous by nature ...

I take alot of videos and pic as do others here but it is a real distraction from riding ... ESP the cam action unless you just turn it on and forget it ... Otherwise, its like you are a director making a movie for hollywood ... I mean CH ..

What is this APP you are referring to? I'm always out on my own here and it might work for me also ...

The app is called HeyTell. It seems to work almost like a radio while talking to other people but also allows trackIng by map. I would also like to find one that tracks me so I can retrace my steps. I you planning on just rentals or a tour company? My dads friend has a tour company in Costa Rica and from the pictures my dad has shown me it looks like an amazing trip. It would be great where you are too!

Sounds like you need a gps ... that trailtech voyager one is very nice ... When riding on new trails or exploring around, they are a must have unless you have a photographic memory ...

I use the helmet cam and GPS trails together to watch the terrain on the cam video and then watch the GPS trail and I can see what the terrain in each area on the map actually is all about ... Its essential for long trips that might have many turns .... I actually need a second one in case the one I have breaks ... My hat is hanging on this single device, coupled with my Huskies ...

I do bike rentals with tours now ... I'd like to just give someone a bike and they hand me the cash .. OR I'd really like to have a GPS on all my bikes and just give someone a Husky and mounted device to ride and let'em go ... But this would ~double the cost of the fees and my upfront costs ...

Costa Rica might be cool ... You never hear much about any heads rolling from that place ... But you never know till you arrive and start walking \ riding around ...

And HeyTell sounds promising ...

Today was the best day I've had in a long time! I haven't ridden since last November when I sold my last bike. I've been trying to decide weather I should get a more street oriented bike like the terra or an offroad model. Offroad it is. I haven't been so relaxed in years! Though I miss riding to work it was stressful at the same time. It was so great to just ride and be able to enjoy it!

I still plan to rent the TC 250 but don't plan on getting one. The TC449 spoiled me lol. Though it's a little heavier it had so much torque that you could be a lazy rider. I was able to power through everything and never concerned about what gear I was in. I was always one of the people against electric starts because I wanted the lightest bike possible. I was so stupid lol. It was difficult to overcome my street experience causing me to give the bars the death grip. After relaxing a little with the reduced power mode I was good to go! I always assumed the power modes on bikes were just a sales pitch but they really are different. Whenever I would get out on a fire road it was race map time lol. Even on the reduced mode the low end power was amazing. Now I'm really wondering how the 310 would be!

I was lucky to find someone that had a really similar skill level. At first I didn't want to ride with him or anyone for that matter so I didn't ride over my head. He was faster on the hard packed roads and I was better in the technical parts. It really worked out well and it was especially nice to have someone help get the bike in the back of the truck at the end of the day cause I was beat lol. We stuck with ATV/motorcycle trails at first. I felt like a pro offroad racers going through 6 inch deep streams lol. We decided to take a new route that looked a little more technical and we were wrong. It was a lot more technical lol. I have to admit that at times I wondered why we were there but in the end, some great stories came of it. After the first rough section we were thinking that it was the worst of it. and then after a couple blind turns it would get worse. Everytime we thought the worst was over lol. I'm sure for most of you it was a typical trail but it was an unknown area to me with a bike I had never ridden before. Loved every second of it!

I'm going to flip my project bike and hopefully get my Husky next season! It was more than I had even expected! It handled everything well. I love the local dealer that is mentioned above too! I only took 10 minutes to sign for the bike and load it up! The owner even printed a map off for me when I told him where I planned to take it. Everyone at that shop was so helpful and honestly, just great to talk to.

Wowo .. quite a story ... I'd say, first off, you are not getting enough seat time in your life :) ...

Next, all the crap stories on the 449 bike were proven as crap stories? Not surprised at all on that one as almost everyone who have actually ridden the bike like it quite a lot ... Not sure why so many in a Husky cafe down-grade the Huskies to such a low level so much unless they are orange cucu plants or something ...

And don't count the TC250 out ... In fact you may not wanna ride it because if it is anything like my 010 TC250, its a great riding bike ... It really does feel like a riding a 125 2T but much more torque, super great handling, at speed or on the trails, and unbelievable front brakes ... Engine feels like a mini 450 to me ... Very easy to keep the power to the ground ...

I'm testing it out regardless, can't help myself lol. I have never ridden a bike and didn't have expensive fixes to complain about until today. The only changes I would want to make are a comfortable seat and bar risers. I couldn't believe how it handled too! It seemed like a great balance between stability and turn in. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when the dealer said they only had the 449 for today. I wanted to try the 250 first just to break myself back into dirt riding. Within a half hour I felt like I had owned it. It really is that much confidence inspiring with the dual maps. I also loved the seat shape. It really allows you to move around and the bike felt a lot thinner than it looks in a showroom. I hope I like the 250 more because its cheaper lol.

Yep yep, and yep on the seat ... Husky is not a seat dream maker ... I almost had to have botox injections in my rear end after 2 yrs of riding my 08 TXC250 ... I finally got some riding shorts (with pads) and added so extra pads that I wear now to save what I have left back there now for riding ...

Will the bike do the different maps on the fly or must you stop the bike first before changing?

-----------------------------

My 010 TC250 (CARB) has Ducati labeled front pads along with the Brembo brake cylinders ... Not sure how big an effect these pads are having but braking is nothing I've ever felt before ... A light, light 1 finger touch and you get level 1 braking, firm but gentle, just enough stopping power to plant the front wheel for railing berms RV2 style and giving braking feed-back ... increase the weight on the lever slightly and you are in level 2 braking ... slowly headed for stoppie power ... Its hard to believe this was engineered into them but that is how mine work currently ... I hope 2 yrs from now they feel the same way ... And if I gotta stay with these pads to keep this action, so be it ... I'll fork over the mula for this action unless the pads just will not last over time ... I have to warn people who ride it the first time NOT to just grab a hand full of brake.

The engine is 100% smooth torque from bottom to top RPM that just seems to hook up the rear tire ... Popping the front wheel up and over obstacles is a given in almost every gear and RPM range ...Yep, the wheelie is 100% back ...

The turning was as unbelievable as the front brake ... It'll turn anywhere and if you wanna change lines AFTER you have picked a line, right in the middle of a turn, the bike will go to a different line while in a line ... Some how, straight line stability was maintained and great and I have not even set the sag on my bike yet ... I'm still marveling on what this bike does ... ( I park my butt way up towards the front when starting turns ... Way up front ... Look down at where you are sitting to insure you are up front ...maybe only 3-4" MAX from the front end of the seat works very good for me in many cases )

Believe me, you will not kick this bike out of bed for eating an entire jumbo box of extra salty crackers .. :) ... Mine is parked in my APT currently each night ...

I found this thread via the " US surge troops out of Afghanistan" post. If you are ever in the NW (Or any of you vets struggling for metal health etc) let me know and I'll provide a worry free bike ride. I want to do stuff for vets and i have bikes and trails so... maybe I can help take some stress off, it is the least I can do for you guys and gals struggling coming back from that mess.
