• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sm 610 cam chain/tensioner problem

parlapipas25

Husqvarna
I have a 610 06 with 10000 km and I did the service but I hear a strange cling cling sound on the left side of engine.i have read about cam chain/tensioner problems and cam chain has to be replace every bit.is there a solution about that problem or I must replace cam chain every bit?

I'd check the tensioner to see how many clicks out it is. Mine was nearly at 7 clicks at 8500kms and I did the chain anyway. I know now I won't need to touch it until at least 20000kms. Manual states to change at 10000kms or when the tensioner is 7 (or more clicks) out.

If it gets too loose, then there's things in the engine that will get chewed up by the chain. Such as the reed valve shown in the pic below.

I must go to my service dealer again cause I don't know how to check up my cam.you know the cost of cam?and something else, can't I adjust cam and no replace it?if i change my tensioner this problem will go away for ever or no?

Is it a good idea to also install a new tensioner and chain guides when replacing the chain?

I've no idea what it cost to get someone else to do it as I did it myself. Cam chain (part only) from memory is about $50-60 - easily sourced from Hall's Cycles. I used the writeup someone did on SMJ to help since it had clearer pictures than the workshop manual. There should be no need to replace the tensioner and/or chain guides.

Doing a quick search resulted in the following links you might find useful:

Nerb1 from Youtube said the exact opposite, in fact he blames his engine blowing on not changing the tensioner when he changed the cam chain.

I asked are local husky tech about the clicks on the tensioner on my left kick 610. He is an old guy who has always worked on huskys and known that left kick 610 engine since day one. He said the teeth showing or clicks out on the tensioner is no indication on its wear what so ever. You must measure it as shown in the book and if in doubt just change it
