    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Seiously planning to buy a 630 SM here in S/A when they arrive--Question as i have never ridden the 610SM and only used my XR650 as a SM.
Would this be viable to use on tar runs now and again--twisty's etc.
I will be keeping my 09/ 610 TE and my 07/450TE. Love them to bits.
Just want to add a third bike to my stable

Any advice would be appreciated would it be a good play bike to do the odd long trip with ? ( Hooligan Bike)
I do know that they have no feed back as far as testing and riding the bike is concerned--however the specs speak for itself.
 
I love my SM610 for weekend fun rides. I use it for commuting and twisty country roads. Highways get boring but no issue for the SM610. It can cruise all day at 65 mph. It would be a great bike for what you describe. IMHO, since you have a TE610, I would just buy a set of SM wheels with the TE front rotor for about $1000-1500. The conversion only takes about 20 minutes and you will have the same bike (minus the shorter suspension).

The problem is i use my 610 Te for Dual Sport Tours i do and mostly Gravel. The reason i was looking at the 630 SM is for that extra power the new bike will be putting out:D
 
Since they’re not out yet it’s hard to tell how this new bike will work…
On paper they‘re like 20% more power ?
The only thing that looks like is needed to be done is switch to a single exhaust to bring the weight back down…

Play hard – travel light = a BIG yes
Play light – travel long = I would say you can do better somewhere else

Do you have other bikes for the tarmac? If not it sounds like you need to diversify, too many bikes that are so close to the same thing.

Why not superduke, speed triple, or streetfighter? Much more fun on the street IMO.

The new SM630 is supposed to weigh 348.3 lbs compared to the SM610's 314 lbs - so you are gaining 20% more power, but you are also gaining 10% more weight. I wouldn't mind another 11 horsepower on my 610, but I sure wouldn't want another 34 pounds of weight.

Today i had a 950 SM KTM at my disposal--must say i was impressed with the smoothness of the power delivery as well as the comfortable sitting position--felt a little heavy at slow speed and the front end was not set up too great--May just be the bike i am looking for :thumbsup:
 
I own and ride a 950SM. IMHO, best street bike ever. I've ridden the street tripple, super duke and owned several others. I love the 950SM.

I love my SM, and I think it's a great bike for traveling. My longest trip so far is 700 miles, but I hope to do a longer trip this summer. Just get a Renazco, and you'll have all day comfort. Here's my setup:

I also added a Laminar Lip, which does a great job taking the windblast off the chest.

Yep, no issues riding long miles / days on the SM 610 / 630. Not the best most comfortable street bike but will do it all just fine. The biggest difference between this and say a 950 KTM is you can actually explore trail with the 610/630. If that is not something you are looking to do I would get a multi cylinder street bike.

Have had second thoughts about the KTM. The reson i started DS riding was that i wanted to stay off the tar as much as possible--and yes the KTM is also maybe too fast to enjoy and ride on gravel--running costs i have found out are not cheap at all.

So i think it is going to be a third Husky in the garage 610 OR 630 SM.

And i do not think buying a set of SM wheels will work for me.

Not into street bikes at all --will definately kill myself on one.

I just talked to my dealer (Bill's MC Plus in Salem, OR) last week. He had a couple of new 2008 SM610's for $5795. He doesn't charge anything extra, unless you have it shipped, and his shipping rates are reasonable.

Edit: Oops, I just realized you're in South Africa. I guess shipping rates to you might be a little high! :) Oh well, I'll leave the info here, in case someone else is trying to find one in the U.S.

The extra weight's gonna be mostly in the twin can setup. Go to a single exhaust and you should be back to the weight of the 610, or close.
 
Seriously guys can you really ride a TE 610 or SM 610 on the highway all day. is the bike up to it? Being a single is it tiring to ride it for long periods and does it prematurely wear the motor?
I fancy getting a new 630 or semi new 610 soon as I wish to do some serious back road touring.

I've done 200-mile days for multiple days in a row on my 610 and have not experienced even one hiccup. It will cruise all day long at 65 with no problems. The only issue I had was enduring the seat. A Renazco fixed that, but there are plenty of cheaper alternatives, too.
