  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SM510 vs FS570

which would be the better bike...

I've read the specs, the reviews, searched the forums etc... but I wanted some feedback from the owners before deciding which would suit me best.

riding:
daily commute from work to home and back (-10km of twisty roads), I do not own a car so reliability is very important to me (this also means that the bike must withstand all weather: rain-snow-sun)
small weekend trips +-100km of twisty roads and some offroad with the occasional 'small' jump

current bike:
KTM SMC 690, I like it though I do not love it, the FI is not what I expected it to be, it's a hard starter and the gearbox is no fine piece of machinery...

I have owned several bikes and have worked on them myself, so the normal maintenance is no issue to me (oil, valves)

please point me in a direction to which bike would suit me best (pro's-con's)

ps: I presume the SM510 will still be there in 2011 (maybe it will be the SM511 which I expect to be somewhat underpowered for street use)

Had to make the same decision: commute; no car; reliability; not excessively service prone.

Even the Husaberg people here advised me not to. The Husky TE449 is not street legal here. In the end, I got myself a 630. As far as I can see, it´s the first attempt by any one at making a street compatible bike that comes as close as is humanly possible to competition standards (with the pu kit)

That was my first thought as well and the reason I bought the KTM version of the 630, the SMC 690...

But I want more toy, less bike...
