  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

08 510 smr. Got past the breakin period changed the oil and checked the valves. Exhaust was perfect and the intake is at the low end of spec. Any tighter and it will have to be adjusted. Anyways, I've noticed that the bike is a little messy. Has a little oil coming out of here and there. Doesn't actually drip just a little mess. Is this pretty much to be expected? I've also noticed that since my first real ride (150 miles and fast) after the breakin the engine does feel a bit looser and the bike starts a lot easier but it makes more engine noise. A little clickety clack. Is this normal as the engine loosens up? It's not noisy by any means just some subtle mechanical noises that weren't there to begin with. I know that there is no way to know for sure if the noise is normal since you can't hear it yourself, but in your experience did the bike make more noise once broken in? Thirdly, while on this ride there were a couple times when cruising at a steady rpm the engine would sort of hesitate. Kind of like slightly letting off the throttle. Never did it while accelerating though. It wasn't a big hesitation, it was very subtle. It this just a FI quirk or possibly something else?

just breaking in. When you get to around 1000 miles, the bike will be a lot different. Thumpers are loud, if you overfill the oil even a bit, and then ride it hard, you will get seepage out of the valve cover. Not sure about the EFI quirk, mine idles down alot faster than my carbed DRZ though.
