• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sounds like the Swedish Husky Factory is getting shut down again

Reading the Motocross Action Mag it sez that now that the KTM person who now owns the modern Husqvarna is going to merge them with Husaburg. Then move production to Austria where KTM is made. The Husaburg Name will die. For those of Us who don't know Husaburg was started by the people who made our Swedish Husqvarnas in the old plant. So is this going to mean that they are going to have to do it all over again? Start a new name and keep the old Husqvarna Factory going yet one more time?

Hopefully it will be like seeing that family member you haven't seen for a long time, big hug, then back to business.

Only the Husaberg Race Team is based in Sweden. KTM bought Husaberg in 1995 and R&D and manufacturing has been in Austria, since 2003.

Don't know about MX but the rumor mill for WEC is French riders Pela Renet and Mathias Bellino, the Swede Joakim Ljunggren and Spaniard Oriol Mena, are signed with Husaberg who will be running as Husqvarna. Added to the Austrian brand could be the Australian Phillips, Seistola and Santolino. Heard that they are also as hot as KTM to get Salvini (this years E2 champ) on board as well. Oldrati has 2014 in his contract as a 2nd year of a 2 year contract with berg but if the others mentioned in the opener of this (they were 1 year contracts) go to bergs running as Husky...making him the "odd man out" would not make sense from a fiscal standpoint so he too may show as Husky in 2014.

My prediction is that the October announcement planned in Sweden will be to set up some sort of vestigal Husqvarna presence there. Race Team HQ or R&D or ......

SP didnt go to Italy to shut them down, he did that from afar....If he's going to Sweden its to deliver a present

As long as they keep making them the soap opera continues. I know there are books out there but I feel a new one coming !

Since this is in the vintage section. Any idea what else was made in the factory in this era say 1968 to 1988. chain saws? sewing machines, things with gun sights on them for acutal use for that purpose. Or even how far away was production of other husqvarna made in sweeden stuff at that time?

Of course there is lots on this elsewhere. I read but havn't bothered to verify or figure out the playing corporate names and such to the effect the motorcycle division has to enter into something like nine or ten year contracts for the use of the name and I guess the symbol. Whether the entity this is (with the name) is the same one with the patents for clean burning two strokes the chainsaw or outdoor power equipment (which has been buying other entities and aquring their names and patents) use has me curious. Perhaps the contracts for the use of the Husqvarna name might also include patent deals. Assuming Husaberg came with the name outright I have to wonder why kill it off perhaps they might need it at some time. Back to the last sentence I quoted it might not be necessary to get a new name.

The rights to use the Husqvarna name for motorcycles is separate from the corporate Husqvarna that makes the power equipment and sewing machines. The right to the Husqvarna name for motorcycle was split off from corporate when Cagiva purchased the motorcycle division with the Husqvarna name and symbol. Cagiva needed the name to distribute it's other lines in the USA through the motorcycle network of dealers

The last Swedish motorcycle factory was actually Highland Motors, founded 1996.
The Swedish founder was killed in a plane crash in Oklahoma 41 years old, July 2010.
They used a V-twin developed by Folan and the bikes where hand built in the Swedish factory.
Folan used technology from Husaberg when developing the engines.

The brand has now American owners.

Here's a brief article about Highland

visiteur1948, I just got off the phone with a Husaberg dealer. They will know their allocation for 2014 models in about three weeks and I can buy a 2014 te250 in about twice that amount of time. Still no te125 in the USA.

Bryll, Some articles I have read seemed to make me beilive 250 auto bikes were still being supplied to the army. Have I got this wrong?

fran...k,

The Army got a bike from KTM these days, the old Huskies are still in use, but by the civil defense.
They get all the old crap the Army don't want ;)
As a private person is it very hard to buy one of the Huskies, almost everything else of the old stuff is sold out.
But not the two stroke bikes, they are not friendly to the enviroment :(

Found a listing of the bikes used by the Army
