• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Spokes and hubs

Larsa

Husqvarna
A Class
Chaps!

My bike is coming together part by part and recently finished the shock assembly, next thing to finish are the wheels.

I was thinking of ordering stainless steel spokes from 'wheels and parts' (http://www.wheelsandparts.se/Katalog/Spokes.pdf) but I had a surprisingly hard time to define the lengths I need as I am not sure what years the hubs are from (I think it is -81)

Anyone able to advice based on the below picture on my finished hubs?
If there is another good buissness someone has experience from that offers spokes, please let me know. Rear rim is 17", front 21".

(spokes had previously been cut off to replace rims)

All the best
Lars

Just had mine done but to two 17". The offset measurements were quite important to the rebuild and I guess to the spoke length too. Did you get them before the spokes were cut? I didn't do them myself, they were done by a guy who mainly does speedway bikes. I could find out where he gets his spokes from, it will be in the UK?

I can't say about the front one but the rear one is obviously a conical hub. The 420 auto bikes had them at a time when it seems the rest of the line had the stronger ones with both side spokes the same length. This is an air cooled 430 if I recall correctly and I am pretty sure those came with the other rear hub. I would upgrade to that hub if it was me. The other one generally has a nordsk or similar spelling with a date on it where the ones on the auto don't say that and might say nothing at all. Also not sure if the angle the holes for the spokes in the rims are different. You might have the wheels from something else. I might suggest studying the parts sheets for your bike and if you can figure out if your bike should have the non conical hub like the 1983 models. 84 or 85 the way the hub and the backing plate fit together changed. I might add that I am not familiar with the cr set up but they wouldn't have a conical hub. Wll not in the year you posted the engine case from.

18 after 1981 = 175 mm x 36 !

You would have thought in this day and age all wheel building companies would have a computer data bank of spoke lengths and bends...ie 78 husky front 21" std sls black hub..nordisk gold painted rim = spoke x....... or maico rear 78 std hub.... akront rim = spoke y.....wishful thinking i guess.

Buchanans has a suprising amount of information.

You would think...I'm struggling to get 17" rear wheel spokes for my '82 430. Even HVA haven't got them.

When I checked with Buchanan for a spoke set for my 84 250WR front wheel it was special order but for the older front it was a stock item because of several years of production as well as the older 78ish wheel that was used for several years as well. I am sure the 82 rear fell into that category but you would need to check. Also they do have all the data for lengths and geometry for almost everything . If not you send them sample spokes and they will figure it out

Larsa, where are you located?...I bought vintage "blanks" and had them drilled by Buchnans...But super laced by Woodys... http://woodyswheelworks.com/

I bought the Akront - Morad ...from the UK, & could have had them drilled there but they ddint know the offset etc...

Buchanans & woodys both do great work

My 17's were done by Dels motorcycles motorcycles and tyres Cirencester UK. He organised the rims, drilling etc then passes them on to kind of hobbiest who does the Swindon speedway team amongst others. If you are in the UK I'm sure he could help. Did a great job on mine.

Thanks Guys for all the replies, special thankt to visiteur for acutally measuring!
(Have been out of town for a while but am back in biz now)

I shall browse around on suggestions and see if I can find som good spokes for my wheels :)

Best Regards
Lars

I dug out all my cutted spokes and thankfully I had taped 7 pieces together to be able to measure them for later use.
Front wheel (21") 229/246 (mm)
Rear wheel (17") 184/196 (mm)

Seems like the front wheel is fairly consistent with your measurements Visiteur (depending on excactly how you measure), but my rear wheel measurements makes me very confused :(

I measured my spokes from the middle of the 'bend' (middle point on the radius) right up to the end of the thread.

Lars

Visiteur,

Thanks for your efforts! My rear whell rim is 17" and the best I have been able to measure is 196/184mm.
I think I am looking at a special order for these as I cannot find this length available in sweden :(

Someone probably replaced the rear hub with an older conical one years ago, I remember having a few extra spokes coming with the bike when I bought it.

Thanks!
Lars

Just an excuse to show off my new tyres but let me know if I can measure offsets or spokes for you. You'll probably experience dicecap envy as well but try not to worry about it.
