  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Starter gears replaced/ problem not gone.

I replaced the Starter gears on my 2010 TE 250. Like so many guys have. However the starter problem still exists. So now should I replace the starter, the brushes are very worn I guess ? Any Thoughts?

From what i hear the kicker has plenty of leverage and is more powerful than battery-starter motor.

We're just repeating info from other threads that helped SOME owners. How much is that starter motor and can you get one......? ....or get new brushes.

Before you buy a starter.....

Make the left side ex valve a little on the tight side........008" I think.
Check the spec.

The whole starter setup is weak. I kick start my bike unless I stall it in a section.
I just rode my 2010 TE250 at Durty Dabbers this weekend.
I only E-started it once.
Mine starts in 1-2 kicks.

What R.Litlle said and i also got a recommendation to jump start the bike if riding in the dirt. Saves the battery as initial starts are generally more of a drain.

ETA just tried to start my '12 and it was acting weak. Put a jumper battery on it and it started like a lightswitch.

Yep will do just got back from a 20 mile ride and the starter only worked 2x. I will check all those things

I try and just stab the starter button and not let it labor. Occasionally it will click at TDC but then it only needs another stab to fire up. Ride with sympathy for the weak little starter and don't just lay on it. As well, use a strong battery, like from EarthX.

I had similar issues with my 2010 TXC 250. Replaced the starter gears at the end of last season, made sure the valves were in spec, and added an earthX battery. Since then it's started like a champ hot or cold. The magnets in my starter were cracked in 4 pieces and with the earthx battery it didn't matter. I've since swapped the starter over to a better shape used one just to be safe, but the battery definitely seems to be a key factor.

Food Info Guys, I am replacing the starter, checking the valves and the battery could b next! Thanks

Well looks looks the starter was also bad. it was completely burnt to a crisp in the internals. I replaced it and she fired right up with ease. So the gears being bound puts alot of stress on the starter etc. I haven't gone in the woods yet but I have randomly started the bike in the garage and she seems fine so far. Thx all for the help!
