  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Suggestions for axle grease wanted

I am using Green Grease as it matches my Twin Air Filter Oil. Plus its Fertilizer-resistant.

Any old Sh*T! :)

I mean, it's only purpose is to prevent rust and make it easier to pull out.. it is not critical at all... I'm all for great products.. WURTH being one of them.. but this one spot is so not important.

You know, for over 40 years I have never seen the need for grease on the axle. After all, all the axle does is allow the wheel bearings to spin on them while holding side tension on the mount.
I just clean them and slide them into place. Of course I do regular maintenance on my bike so the axles never stay in place for more than a couple of months at a time.

Again....Why lube the axle? Nothing spins on it at all. The axle applies pressure to the mount, bearings and the center sleeve of each wheel. The axle is stationary and nothing spins on it! All grease will do is draw dirt and grime to it.

paw paw, do you not ride when its wet out or something? many rides its quite normal for one or both axles to be underwater at some point. then again, i ride older stuff and there is always good grease on the swinger pivot and axles. seen too many problems with seizing there. i also take all wheel bearing seals off when new and pack with belray. my wheel bearings last years instead of months now.

I think it's a lot like 2 stoke oil in that there are a lot of good choices. I grease every part I can every time I have my bike apart for any reason. What I like about the Mystic JT-6 high temp is that is seems to hold up better in the places like lower and upper shock bearings that seem to go bad the quickest. It keeps the water out which is most of the battle.
