  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I think I remember someone telling me there is a Husky suspension Guru in or near NJ. Anyone know anything about it/him?

Yes folks, Drew knows a little bit about riding - I can attest to it first hand....
27 years ago I was in my first year of enduro riding and was learning under the instruction of 54 year old Dick Stichler, who was at the top of his Super Senior class. In an enduro in our home state of PA, I was riding Dick's old Maico 250 and he was on a new Husky, both riding on different numbers because I was in the C class (he pre-entered to get an earlier number so he wouldn't get held back by us slower C riders). He gave me an old scroll chart holder to put on my bars and taught me how to figure out all the mileage based on the times, so I wrote the whole enduro out on my paper roll, and put it in the holder and mounted it to the bars. I was feeling pretty good about my preparations - had my digital watch set to key-time and taped to the bars too - the bike was ready. Dick walked up to me and asked if I had all my times figured out and double-checked for accuracy.... I replied "yup" - then he asked if I had it on the bar good and solid, and my watch set to key-time and taped to the bars securely, to which I replied "you bet I do". Imagine how confused I was when his next statement was "now take it all off and don't worry about it"???? He then pointed to this guy I never saw before and said "you see him - that's Drew Smith and he's on your number. He's one of the top riders in the country and if you stay with him you'll easily win your C-class." Being 22 years old at the time and riding dirt bikes for about 7 years, I thought that wouldn't be an impossible task (remember how cocky 22 year-olds can be). Coupled with the fact that Drew was riding this unGodly huge Honda 4-stroke monster while I was riding a feathery light 2 stroke, I though to myself "how fast can this pro ride that big tank through these tight, rocky, PA trails"............well.......I beat the snot out of that poor Maico (and myself) trying to keep up with Drew, and about the only time I remember seeing him that day was at the start, the gas check, and maybe a dirt road or two where they gave us such slow speeds that even I could get back on time. I was totally amazed at his ability and later found out that he went to Whales that year for the ISDE (or maybe it was the preceding year - I forget) Anyway, he thoroughly schooled me, and gave me and my whole riding gang a good laugh that year. If he is one-tenth as good at setting up suspension as he was at riding back in the 80's, you won't be disappointed. As soon as my fork seals start leaking, I'm sending them down to Drew for his "magic".

I spoke with him (Drew) on the phone a few weeks ago and he was extreamly nice and answered all my questions without rushing me off the phone. He will be getting our GG suspension for set up and maybe my Husky 125.
