• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SWEET! 1984 500ae

What a lovely bike! Rode one for the first time last year - boy, does that take some getting used to - not having any engine braking****************************************

Andy

No engine braking but no clutch or gear lever as well - how easy are they to ride - I think it's like cheating!

The link didn't work for me, so I guess someone has purchased it? Its in lovely condition.

Terence. Nice bike! Can you tell me how you got your tank so white! Is it painted. I've just pick up an 84 xc500 and its got the normal brownish coloured stain . I've managed to clean it a bit , scraping, sanding and even tried the bleaching. I've never been able to get a vintage white tank back to white , nor have I heard of anyone else , other than painting it. I've considered the clarke tank but I'm not sure how close to stock appearance it is. Glenn

im not sure id be able to ride it terrence...that bike is so clean...i know they are made for it, but...but...
im kinda scared of the auto gearbox but i would love to ride one. that would push me over the edge i bet!

Thanks. Too bad they don't make a stock size replica. I think I either need to find a whiter oe tank ( unlikely) paint my tank ( not preferred for a rider bike) make a vinyl cover ( could be just ok, used to do these in the 80's and the Yamaha it guys are doing this now in oz/nz) or just put up with the stained tank. Thanks Glenn

Wow, what a nice bike. Just now experiencing my first dual shock / air cooled husky and liking it. (83 XC 500) but an auto would be crazy.

i rode an auto 1 time 87 430lc had 4054s ana disk rode it enuff 2 figger out u cud flat haulass after u got used 2 it:thumbsup:

Auto's are so good for showing you how much time you spend in a corner doing nothing! waiting to get it pointing in the right direction so you can squirt it again:p

They really focus your attention on brakes gas brakes gas..... whereas we spend a lot of time using engine braking to balance during cornering without realising.

if you want to test this, pull the clutch half way through a corner and watch the balance and line go out of wack

Terence bike in the post above is a vinyl perforated tank wrap/ cover. Blow up the picture and you can see. Someone was selling them on eBay and I know one of the vintage husky suppliers sells them as well, I just forget who

Vintage roost do the mxm perf covers. http://vintageroost.com/collections/decals/products/hus-de-8400-500250ta
I did consider these but didn't like the idea of the stained portions showing.
The tank on terrances bike is white all the way to the tank mounts , I'm thinking it might be painted with a full sticker kit over the top. I don't want to high jack this thread, but the tank on my bike is spoiling an otherwise clean bike and I'd love to know how terrance got his so good. Glenn

what happened to the back guard/ frame loop ?

id really love to experience one of these one day

looks like it's probably been looped out and landed on the rear guard ( which probably smashed into 100 pieces and was replaced ) and bent the frame loop up.

I can't wait to ride my 420 Auto, it's probably three months off being finished.
