  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TC 250 with electric start

A Class
Just got a new TXC 250 in today and was surprised at how similar it is to the TC!!! Looks like the only real difference is the electric start, 6speed transmittion and 18 inch rear wheel. The engine is exactly the same which gave me an idea.....Would it be possible to install (there's already a place for it on the TC engine) an electric starter? It looks like it would fit right in. I would keep the original stator and just wire it directly to the battery. It would not charge the battery but hey in a race how many times do you need to start the bike, so not a problem really!!! What do you think and would the downside be if any??? Looks like the electric start from the TXC would work perfectly!

There's really no comparison IMHO, our TC will rip the face off our TXC (even with the EFI is dialed in). To me, the differences are quite noticeable. The TXC feels heavier, is slower and is less responsive to throttle inputs (less hit). I've never noticed a discussion about flywheel mass, so I wonder if there's a difference between the TC and TXC flywheels?

Kouack, went through the parts catalogue but I can't find the starter kit anywhere??? Is is specific the TC250 2010???

I was under the impression that the new 250 motors were closer to each other than previous years. I wonder what exactly the differences are, and if performance gains can be had by using TC parts in the TXC. Then again, a TC with estart could just be the ticket. Especially if the TC is indeed green stickered in CA. (I haven't confirmed that for sure) That's an advantage to all the other MX models out there.

I think the main difference is power delivery is the flywheel/stator plus the 6 gear transmition. Putting on an electric start to the TC should not really effect the power so much.

The crank is different TE/TXC to TC so you can't fit electric start to the TC without a lot of work...

Sorry for confusion i had in mind 450 :banghead:

need gear on backside of ignition, worm gear, starter, wiring harness, battery etc. it will work with alot of work

Yes but even if you get all this, the crank still needs changing! The TE/TXC crank is machined differently to suit the electric start components.

It's definitely got a different part number in the parts manual! I'd heed Dave's advice before attempting this modification.

Dave, do you mean where the electric start goes into the top of the crankcase? Would it not be possible to change with TXC components???

No, the actual crankshaft is different - we've been pushing the factory hard to have an electric start fitted as standard or at least available as a kit but we're told it's not possible because the crank itself is different and TE/TXC flywheel etc will not fit onto the TC crankshaft.

The TC ignition is a much smaller, narrower set up than the combined generator/starter clutch set up on the TXC/TE so it makes sense the crank would be shorter on TC.

Dave, wow so basically NOT possible then????
We have put the new Power Commander and Auto Tune on our TXC and set it up with a HGS exhaust, wow......Apart from a very slight hesitation on the bottom this set up is really almost as good as the TC**************************************** Heaps of pull from middle to top!!

Have you done the ecu reflash? It's supposed to eliminate the hesitation on the bottom.
