  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 510 2010 model hard to cold start.

Anyone with this model had difficulty with cold starting. Once engine is hot it starts easy.

Last two rides the engine is getting harder to start. Have to crank it over for much longer than normal which almost flattened the battery. It does finally start and once hot or warmed up it starts immediately. Has anyone with this model experienced this same problem and what was the solution. I appreciate any comments on this issue.

Thanks for your advice. I have tried with both the enricher on and off with the same degree of difficulty. I may have to part with serious money n take it to my local husky repairer to look at. I forgot to mention that I have also replaced the spark plug, but that made no difference.

WE HAD A FEW NEW 450/510S THAT HAD THE WRONG AUTO DECOMP CAM IN THEM ,THE ONLY WAY THEY WOULD START COLD PULL OUT COLD START KNOB ALL THE WAY,THEN HOLD FULL THROTTLE WHILE CRANKING OVER AND WHILE DOING THAT LET THE THROTTLE SLAM CLOSED AND THEY WOULD START EVERY TIME BUT THE CAUSE WAS THE WRONG PART.INSTALLED NEW DECOMP CAN AND WOULD START LIKE NEW SUPPOSED TO.

Not sure if husky fixed the temp sensor problem on the 2010 models, but on all the 09's I've had experience with the temperature sensors go bad after a while or if the bike gets veryy hot which makes the bike very hard if not impossible to start cold. Relatively cheap part. Im curious, does your bike have the stock T connector in the coolant lines running from the water pump to the tops of the radiators? The temp sensor failing has happened to all 2 of my 09 510's. Talked with a few husky dealers and we figured out that the sensors go bad from overheating. 3rd 510 I have currently installed a Y hose connector on the coolant lines, installed a high flow water pump and replaced the temp sensor with the updated one before I even started the bike for the first time, has yet to be an issue. ALso couldn't hurt to check and adjust your valve clearances.
