  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 problem....

Hey all,

PIcked up my Husky te511 on Friday and took her out for a few miles on the road to run her in then some short easy off road, bike was great although suspension feels stiff but guess it will bed in...?

Got up bright and early went to a trail and messed about off road and changes a few bits and pieces, handelbars, levers etc to try and get more comfortable. A friend suggested we go somewhere else so we went down a few paths on singletrack slowly and the bike was stalling a few times....(my mates KTM and Husa were fine...) got onto an open trail and back on the road and I noticed it was smoking...pulled in and oil was p*ssing through the air filter. Seems like the dealer put way too much oil in it. I did check it before I rode but the extra temp seemed to cause the issue. There was oil all over cables, crank case etc. I pulled over and phones the Mrs for a life back in the van as was not too far away. Bike left quite a lot of oil on the road....Brought it back, cleaned it down and removed all the oil, got the excess out of the filter, dropped a little oil out and gave her a clean. Then fired it up sounded ok but the wires the go into the exhaust where the bolt is (by the right foot) started smoking..and the cables feel red hot (burning) is this normal as tend to keep my fingers off this but when hot but looks like it would catch and I dont fancy setting fire to her just yet....I want to take it for a spin to check but unsure...

My dealer is a fair bit away but anything I should do other than take it in - my new boots are also covered in oil...not happy....

with the bike straight up and down on level ground the oil should only be 1/3-1/2 full in the sight glass. If you open the oil fill cap and oil flows out,...you have too much oil. And when there is too much oil the symptoms are everything you just mentioned. So I would get the oil level correct, pull the air filter housing out and clean it up along with any other mess it made, then go ride!!

I just picked up my TE511 5 days ago and so far all running good, except I noticed it blew a little bit of smoke every so often. After reading your post I checked my oil level in the engine and noticed that the oil sight glass showed overfull so I took out the filler plug and oil flowed out. I quickly leaned the bike over to stop the flow and proceeded to take out a further 220mls of oil with a syringe before the sight glass showed approximately half full. That is 20% more oil than it is supposed to have. Not good.

Another point of interest is that the Husky Owners Manual here in Australia shows the fuel capacity to be 8.5 litres and 9.5 litres in the USA ! Can we get hold of these tanks ??

This is the most satisfying dirt bike I have had in the last 20 years. I love the leap in concept and techology.

Hard to understand the bad press huh? GREAT bike.

All of our 449/511's have had the correct oil amount from the factory. I check every bike during prep. You never know if it's correct.
I only have the little brother TE449 and am loving it. good bike, and fun to ride.

Thanks for the help. I am a novice when it comes to husky bikes so much appreciated. Cleaned the air filter and took the oil down to the required level. Took it for a ride on road to see how she goes. Now I may be being paranoid and I am used to road bikes on road. Any other owners does your bike pop loudly (almost a backfire on the overun) accelerating then shutting off? Also bike is jerky on a constant throttle. I am running the akrapovic exhaust but now a bit worried and not wanting to give it too much stick. I was looking for things to be wrong i guess instead of just enjoying riding it as was not the best maiden voyage... After a 15 minute blast checked the oil and levels look ok just there were bubbles in the sight glass. Never had a site glass before so is this normal? Or should I drop the oil. Thanks.

I would change the oil, set to recommended level and enjoy. Run it a little and check again, it will sometimes change a little due to filling the oil filter cavity and settling to its level.

I'd bet money thats a error and they all have the same tank. Mine holds exactly 2.2 gallons from empty. (8.327 L) So send me YOUR tank

I had the same issue with oil through the airfilter.. Dealer said that the recommended oil amount was too much.. Should only fill to just enough to just see in the sight glass. No overflow issues now!
