  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE to SM Wheels. Kickstand? Magnet pickup for speedo?

I just finished bolting a pair of 2006 SM610 wheels and tires onto my 2008 TE450. While it has not been as plug and play as I had hoped, I test rode the bike today with the SM wheels, so I am nearly done. I ended up using the TE front brake caliper, with a caliper relocation bracket. I'll probably still work on mounting the SM caliper some time later.

My leftover issues: Kickstand. It sucked bad enough with the dirt wheels (stock), now with the 17's, the stand is too long. I don't have a welder. Any idea what stand I should buy that will bolt up, and work? Or should I just look for a triangle stand for the rear axle?

Speedo: There are no magnets on the street wheel's rotor, so the speedo doesn't work. I tried to use some super strong tiny magnets on the rotor, but the pickup doesn't seem to 'see' them. I had one placed where it would pass right over the screw in sensor on the caliper bracket, but it failed to pick up the magnetic signal. So I now have no speedo. Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

you could probably pick up a SM kickstand and just use that all the time instead of the super extended stock TE one. Not sure for the spedo pickup.

If you know how much length you need removed from the stand, I'll cut and tig it up for free. PM me if interested.

I carry little 1x2 that I put under rear wheel to make bike taller and work with original TE kickstand :)

Thanks for the offer, oldskool63, but Tenn is a bit too far from MN, so I think I'll save the shipping expense and look for a local welder. That's a kind offer though, so thanks.

No problem Vespadaddy. It may be best to have it on the bike when you got to a shop. Cut off as little as possible and check it to your liking. It's better to makes a few cuts than whacking off too much and making 2 different welds.
