  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE250 dashboard problem...

Hoping for enlightenment from the wisdom of the collective... Now I remember reading that the older TE's had problems with the speedo giving up but it mine may have caught the same illness!

My symptoms are a complete lack of display, nothing at all not even the idiot lights. I changed the air filter recently so had to remove the battery, everything was fine when I started the bike after refitting all the gubbins but two days later dead dash syndrome. The bike did get caught (parked) in a rain storm but it's never been affected by wet before and the bike starts, runs and rides perfectly well, there are no other problems what so ever.

I'm hoping some one has seen this before and can help, otherwise I guess I'll have to invest in a Vapour!

With thanks in advance.

I would pull the connector and make sure everything is nice and dry, refitting with dielectric grease. Check the fuses as well.

On the older ones, it was often water that caused the outage issue. Mine did it once. I opened it up dried it out & it's worked fine ever since.
Worth a try on yours before you spend $$$.

Mine's opened up and on the radiator as we speak, fingers are crossed and wallets locked away! Great minds!

Connector looks fine, I'll get some grease in it tomorrow when I plug it all back together.

Thanks for the help.

My 09TE450 filled with water after 4 days of riding in rain- then a Random illumination display effect occurred- I took it apart, poured the water out, let it dry for a couple days open, then resealed and installed. Continued Random illumination display for my amusement. I played with everything playable and went without for a few months- then plugged it back in for more amusement,... then I bought a Trailtech Vector and have spent numerous multi days of riding in the rain since. OEM lasted 6 months in 2009, Trail Tech's is still presently working. I liked the stock speedo with its features but was happy to NOW have an adjustable trip meter.

Good luck with yours working though- if you take it apart make sure you seal it back up well.

Thanks! Does the TT have an adaptor for the Husqvarna plug or does it need to be "adapted"?

Cheers

On my 09 the stock multiport plug is pretty original- so no, its not plug and play. Most the features of the stock speedo don't unfortunately translate to other speedos (fuel level sensor, neutral, turn signal indicator, "fail" indication, high beam) will all be gone with the stock speedo. Yes I thought about and researched finding a speedo that could do all that and then try to figure out the plug and wiring to make all those functions work, but ultimately gave up on that idea. I personally get by fine without all that- I have not hooked up the Vectors Temp sensor either- just thought its one more thing to go wrong and keep it simple- but I think I am going to hook it up with my spring prep...
I think the wheel sensor was plug and play- I wired the power source from the "euro Parking light" comes on with ignition (dc power). That's it.... unless you use the temp sensor- and that's another extra sensor that comes with the kit so that is plugNplay and gives you actual numbers on the dash. I like it. The Vapor would be great but does not have an adjustable (+/- .01) trip meter where the Vector does... for me that's an important tool for Dualsport Events.

My 630 dash took on water as well. Here is the result:

Thanks, guys, for all your help. Mine's still on the radiator, fingers are still crossed!
jtemple, mine's completely dead, I think it might be beyond my simple fix.

Once again, thank you to you all.

Does the bike start? I though I'd blown mine but the bike wouldn't start as well. Turned out to be the fuse

The bike starts and runs fine with no dashboard display and no dashboard lights. The fuse for the dashboard also does the ECU.

The fuse is good, but I could wobble the fuse for the fuel pump and lose power, so that needs looking at.
