  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310 (2012) leaking oil at blow by tube on head... normal?

btray

Husqvarna
First post so forgive me starting off by asking for help...

Background: Bought a 2012 TE310 off craigslist with 1200 miles. Road it a few times with no issues. Live in San Diego and did a hard 4+ hour ride in Big Bear this week and noticed oil dripping down the left side of motor. Not much but enough to notice... it's on the head and side case. Appears to be coming from the blow by tube that connects into the top of the head. Any concern?

The bike has the TXC 12 hole/ECU setup and I run it on race mode. I'm thinking the oil level might be a little high as I have all oil in the window so thinking about cleaning her up, changing the oil and going from there. I have another trip coming up on Monday so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Brian

Drain it and add 900ml of a high-quality 0W-40 synthetic oil. If that doesn't fix it, then maybe you need new piston/rings. 1,200 miles is a lot of miles for a little engine turning 10,000 rpm.

"1,200 miles is a lot of miles for a little engine turning 10,000 rpm."

I'm poking along at 2.000 miles with no signs of issues (those that have come up like small leaks, etc... are addressed and I move on). Take good care of a small displacement engine and they will take good care of you. We are using very good oils, very good filters and maintaining them. The internal components are built to tolerances standard for today. Granted if folks race all the time or just are always aggressive, redline the thing and miss shifts, forget oil, redline at startup, don't get their air filter on right, etc.....

I did note a tiny bit of oil residue on that valve cover vent. Not flowing or dripping any but probably some atomized vapor that emanated out. If I had the tank off I'd probably pop the hose and place a new clamp on it. Never know who assembled the bike at the factory. The grommet on the left side is a known leak point that should be addressed.

Actually, I didn't experience any leaks till I went to mobil 1 0w40 ..thinner oil = more distribution = leaky stator wiring grommet. ..I'm sticking with the 0w40 and hoping for the best with the repeated suggested fix. .. If this is where " btray's" leak is coming from...I might have misunderstood where his leak is ?

Blah, blah, blah?

The motor has 68 hrs/1624 miles after yesterday's ride. The leak is at the plastic 90 degree connection where the blow-by tube connects to the head per the manual (see page e27 #19 on the manual link: http://www.endurofactory.nl/pdfs/2012/2012_WSM_TC-TXC-TE250-310.pdf)

I am running 10-50 Motorex but was planning to switch to 0-40 after my next ride. I did lower the oil level so now it's at half way up the sight. I don't ride it that hard so I'm hoping with good maintenance it will last...

I rode single track for several hours yesterday out at Pine Valley and it seeped a little but definitely less than my last trip.

Siens - I grew up in Toms River and lived for a brief while in Forked River... used to swim in the lake out to the floating platform as a kid. Big small world...

Johnrg - I'm actually camping at Carpinteria all next week and will be bringing the husky. Was hoping to explore some of the mountains in Santa Barbara. I spent 17 years in Ventura so I know the area but if you're up for a ride next week hit me up.

Really appreciate the replies you guys...

Brian, Not sure right now. Just cleaned her up to install that version 2 recirc. kit and an oil change... And... training for a race on the lake in Big Bear. Hope to ride Sunday up there as well.

My 2010 leaks there too.

Tried Silicone but it still leaks.

TipTy sells an updated breather with 3 o-rings.

I have it but have not installed it yet.

Sorry btray..I misunderstood where your leak was. . Yeah small world. .lots of great trails around here too !

Again thanks everyone. I rode it a bunch up in Santa Barbara with only slight weeping. I'll keep an eye on it but for now I'm having too much fun riding it!
