  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310 2012 - oil leak advice - LH crankcase gasket

I’ve got a couple of small oil leaks from my TE310, 2012. One from the oil filter cover, one from the LH crank case. I had a look at the parts manual and ordered a o-ring for the oil filter cover and the gasket for the LH crank case.

I’m looking for advice on how to attend to the LH crankcase. I’m ok with the oil filter cover, I’ve been changing the oil and filter and did reuse the o-ring for the last few changes, bikes done about 1500km and it came with one spare oring.

Do I just dump the engine oil out, unbolt the crank case cover, put the gasket on and fill her up with oil again? Do I need to use gasket sealant? Anything I'm missing or tips or tricks - I'm obviously not a mechanic but like learning about my bike and tinkering in the garage.

Thanks for the assistance.

The oil filter o ring is no biggie, just lay the bike on it's left side gently and remove the filter cover and your'e done with that side. My gut is telling me the left side stator cover isn't leaking, rather the stator wire grommet is likely what's causing the leak and dripping down to where you are seeing it. Silicone the grommet and test it.

Were any the bolts loose on that cover? If so, re-tightening them might be all you need and be careful not to strip them out... I'm no Ranger so I always check the easy route first ...

That o-ring gives me issues also :(

Good luck on that drip-drip fix ..

Did you ever figure out if that leak was from the crankcase or the wire grommet? I've got the exact same leak on my '13.

Awesome, thanks. Looks like I've got a little project ahead of me.

I just did that fix a couple weeks ago on a 2014 TE310R that I just bought. Crazy that a new bike with 300 miles has an oil leak like this, but it wasn't too bad to fix.

The link jetmani sent you is what i used as a reference and it was spot on. I used the ultra black sealant that i got from the auto parts store and it worked perfectly. This is probably obvious, but when taking off the clutch level, take the fastening bolt all the way out or the level is a bitch to get off.

Also - Have you done the power up mod on the ECU, removed the velocity stack, and replaced the filter with a K&N? When I got my bike it still had the emission restrictions on it so it ran like crap. No throttle response and couldn't accelerate. After doing those 3 things it runs like a champ
