  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449 Cooling system issue

I now have 150 mi on my new TE449, and I must say I absolutely love it. I do have one issue that has me a bit concerned. I rode 2 days over the weekend, and after letting the bike cool down completely I checked the coolant level in the rad, and was shocked to find that it had unbled pressure in it. I checked the over flow hose to make sure it was not pinched or blocked and it is fine. I rode it the following day and checked the rad again after the bike was completely cool, and again the cooling system was presurized. Has anyone else expirienced this, does anyone know what pressure the rad cap is on the 449/511?

I will now check my TE511.

Thanks for the tip.

I looked into this a little deeper today, and it apears as though the radiator caps pressure spring and seal are being preloaded agains the inside of the filler neck when screwed on. I put on a cap from one of my other bikes and will see how it works.

They are all supposed to do that, has to hold pressure.

I know they are supposed to seal tight to the inside of the filler, but this one seems to be putting a lot of added pressure on the spring mechanism that is supposed to release unwanted/excess pressure.

Normally I wouldn't be concerned, but the the bike is holding pressure over night after being ridden, and it is enough to blow coolant out the filler when the cap is removed

Ah, so this is a closed system, so, if the overflow tank is leaking the system will not pressurize / retain pressure and contribute to some of the overheat issues?
