• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tell me your thoughts on this bike..1988 TE510

Great motor, but internal parts are expensive, it cost me $1000.00 in parts  to rebuild my 86 510. I saw that ad on Craigslist too, but thought, it was a
tiny bit to far to go for a bike from NW NJ.. would be a cool bike if you could get a title. Also watercooled Huskys are know to rot the engine cases from the
inside, so do a good checking 1st:thumbsup: or it could be real expensive.

Great bikes and that is a good price too!!!

The radiator scoops alone are worth half of the purchase price!!!

Go for it.

Andy.

Only the clutch cover could be rotted the four stroke and automatic engine cases are aluminum not magnesium. If it has had anti freeze as opposed to water probably safe. It is much easier to find an 85-86 rotted cover than an 87-88 for some reason.

If you don't have any knowldege about this era probably should get one from the next section older single cam. a 350 or 410. As with all the mono shock in this section there is a good chance the holes in the frame at the swingarm pivot are elongated and the rear of the engine has damage from rattling around.

It looks likel the head has been off, I have gone through a few cam chains but never took the head off. The exhaust is most likely aftermarket which I suppose is good as I have sportster mufflers on mine. I got mine in 1997 and here is a picture from July 2013.

I am not so sure the top riders going for the overall in enduros and the overall for the year liked these they can be hard to impossible to start hot at times. I do know one guy who did good on a 350 but if you can trophy one day and the next time loose 15 minutes with a dead engine his buddys step in and remind of this inconvient fact when talking up the model.

85 and 86 are air cooled. 87 1st year liquid.
For the four stroke most likely correct. The clutch cover for an 1988 te510 like mine is very much like the 87-88 two stroke 250 and larger two strokes excluding auto. The air cooled four stroke particularly the one in a twin shock chasis seem to be the most collectable however they have less fins than a comparable two stroke where the four stroke got larger radiators when it got liquid cooling.

if you want an older husky, a two stroke would be alot better to care for...especially air cooled. the swede huskies are a labor of love and rewarding when set up right

That looksl like an 1983 xc500 with wr headlight and rear fender.

It is freshened up perhaps restored, has no bark busters. The one you asked about was a specific model in a craig list ad. It looks like something someone entered events with.

Depends on your planned use, I would much rather meet a horse or horses, bunch of hikers on a trail with the four stroke one. The 88 te510 has a chance of being made quiet, will have (compared to the wr300 and te449,2012,2013) a lower seat, better seat, and room for the ankles that may or may not be appreciated. There is a chance someone bought one of them because of the reduced price at the time and it didn't get entered in 20 events a year for a year or two and then get sold off again and again.

What I am getting at is if in your area the quads four wheelers whatever you call them modify the engine for more compression and the exhaust to be loud the 83xc500 probably in my opinion is a very good choice out of this section if you can start it. If the quad guys who most likely outnumber the dirt bikes pretty severly keep their stuff in stock sportsman/hunting/utitility configuration the four stroke water cooled will fit in better.
