    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Terra Metzler Sahara Enduro 3 life?

I did a bunch of searching, but can't find anything that talks about the life folks are seeing with the stock Metzler Sahara Enduro 3. I've got 1800 miles on mine, and am thinking about taking it to Santa Clara, CA next week. The trip would be 1400 miles easy, 2000 if I have as much fun as I should. The first 1800mi have been probably 60(pavement)/40(gravel/dirt), this trip would likely be 95/5. It's ride down next weekend, work for a week, ride back next weekend, and I don't have room in the schedule to fiddle with tires while I'm there.

I'm assuming I can get 4k with the stock tires no issue, but wanted to test it with those who have seen that mileage.
 
I have almost exactly 5000 miles on my Terra. The rear Sahara is for sure ready to retire after my 650 mile camping trip this coming weekend.
I think you should be just fine.
Are you taking I5 or the scenic route down the coast to the Bay area?

Thanks for the data point, I can stop over thinking the tire thing now. :-)

I did the same trip last year on my K1600, went down the coast, and back through Napa and then somehow worked my way up to CA-3 and into Yreka, then blasted home on I5. This year the goal is to interstate only if absolutely necessary, hopefully only once I get to the Bay Area. My current thinking is down the east side of I5, likely 97, maybe even 139, 395, not sure where I'll head east. Then up the coast. I went down the coast last year, I'll see what it looks like heading the other way. I need to start narrowing it down. I'm about 80% certain I'm taking the Terra, but I may take the easy way out and take the "big bike." Interestingly, I find the Terra more comfortable and fun as long as I'm under 60ish.

If you come up the coast let me know. Maybe we can meet up in Crescent City or Brookings for a beer. A very nice ride is Redwood Hwy 199 heading east or CA 96.

I'm aware of at least a few people with 5k+ miles on the tires, on the other hand last I checked Santa Clara Cycles on El Camino Real stocked a wide variety of tires and have good prices - think they still have free tire mounting also.

If you are coming near Napa let me know, and personally I see no reason to use a 'big bike' or use I-5, at least for the most part.

I saw 5K on the Sahara's before switching to the Mita's. Rear tire was pretty toasted, well, maybe not as toasted as the one offered by Rugged Exposure!
 
The saharas on my XC still had some life in them @ 3800+ when I sold it.
I rode that bike 60% paved, 40% unpaved.
FWIW, I also dont typicaly get as long a life from tires or as good gas milage as lessor humans do.

Mine were toast at 6000ks and a bit scary in the wet on tar when new and just got more vague as time went on, not all that good on dirt either, not a fan.
 
ive got about 3200km so far on the stock tires.

figure the rear is 50% worn and the front about 20% worn. Heavy wrist in the dirt I guess.

Has anyone else noticed the front tire dosent wear even. some of my front lugs are worn on the inside pointing towards the center of the tire. Like they are curled inwards. The air pressure is good. I do notice that its really loud on the pavement for the style of tire. I don't feel any play in my front bearing, cant notice a bend in the rim. Then again I never hit anything which would bend the rim and there is no excessive vibs at hwy speed...kinda weird.

i'll upload a pic once I get a chance.

That's why I changed mine, the front still had plenty of tread but was wearing like yours and steering shakes lent over in corners. All good now with new hoops.
