  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The Good Oil ??

Hey Guys, i am new to this site and to Husqvarna ownership.

Have just brought a new 2009 model TXC510 and was wondering what engine oil most were using.

The owners manual says it should be a synthetic 10w-60 oil, the problem is that here in New Zealand the only stuff i can get in that viscosity is motorex at $40.00 per litre.

Most of the other high performance mx bikes are running synthetic 10w-50 oils of which there are plenty available here at reasonable prices.

I am a mechanic by trade so i do know the value in using a good quality oil, i just wondered if anyone else had used the lower viscosity oil.

The only potential drawback i could see is it may burn more oil with a lighter grade ???

Great site by the way !!

If your temperatures are mild, 20-50w be OK. Southern CA here and run 20-50w Spectro Off Road semi-synthetic, about $8 a liter here in CA, probably way more in NZ. Someone will be along to recommend some cheaper oils like Rotella that are popular.

people use a wide variety of oils in their Huskys from 15-40 to 10-60, synthetic or petroleum, and whatever they run it all seems to work for them. The motors don't seem to be finicky and hold up well on everything, pretty much. Seems odd for a short stroke, high compression engine, but it's true.

I use elf fully synthetic, belray thumper oil gets good raps to.

You can't get rotella ( synthetic ) as far as I know.

I have used the Motul 5100 semi synthetic for years on my 510 and 450. It is 10/50 and is readily available in NZ. By the way we are gonna kick the All Blacks butt on Saturday-

(just hoping-the way you guys dished South Africa I am not too optimistic)

The Motul will be fine. If you do frequnent oil changes, Shell Rotella is "inexpensive" & is a quality oil.

That's strange...I would have thought since the Shell Rotella T is a heavy duty off-road equiptment oil it would be a world wide seller. I used Motul & Repsol with no problems, I can buy a gallon of Rotella for what 1 litre of Motul cost. :excuseme:

Motul, as recommended by Oz importer! 300v 15/50 in my 510. no problemo. Ran Motul for the last 6 years with no probs, its the dogs danglies

hi guys shell rotella is more than likely avaiable at a shell distributer not a service station personally i use motul 5100 semi synthetic in my 09 510 just change it more often every 10 -20 hours depending on the type of ride

Thanks for the replies Guys

Fellow Kiwi....I use Castrol 15/40 "Modern engine"...from Super Cheap or Repco, I change it every good hard day ride I do, Oil filter every second ride, I have a 08 450 TXC, from new I have run this, also in a KXF, I pulled down @ 50 hrs, it was like new, I know others running it also, & running MX, X Country ect....this is cheap to run, & you get a few changes from a container full for around $ 30

Works for me......cheers.

Yes, I hear that peanut oil really imparts a delicately tasty and crispy characteristic to the insides of your motor with zero cholesterol.
