  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The old water pump corrosion Chestnut

i thought my repair of the corroded water pump case with 2 pac araldite and fibre fill was a winner but it let go on my last ride spectacularly, peeling away from the pockmarked casing and dumping the radiator contents straight into the box and making a loverly pink milkshake :(

it has lasted 9 hours of run time

Any assistance with good casing somewhere?

i plan to see if i can remove the rest of the araldite and try a devcon filler... its a pia

cheers

Can't help with your water pump problems, i have my own problems to deal with like my lack of second, third, fourth and fith gear, and also my locked up shocks.
Thanks for your help yesterday, was a pity we both out of the vinduro after an hour and a half.

Grind out with a dremel. When you did your repair did you coat the cover from both sides? The impellor floor was through on mine enough the the inside material got flowed to the outside. One piece inside and out in other words. I used no fibre fill, all JB Weld, comparable to 2 part Devcon

Why does this type of corrosion happen in the first place ? I thought the coolant contained corrosion inhibitors.

That is from years and years of using standard coolant with tap water. Mag and aluminum require coolant mixed with deionized water, not tap water. Premix coolant is available for modern bikes.

I have also read over time coolants become acidic and should be changed annually. Cars too.

unearthed radiators have been blamed as well, i see the comment on hondas, a mate who is a weldmeister has just welded his corroded 84 cover up asim going to give him mine to weld with mag, he is confident he can pull it together so i can machine it flat and drill the seal hole ok. see how it goes
