  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

hi guys just changed over my original rear tire mich comp III 120-90-18 to
s 12 XC the shop has fitted 130-80-18.. is this going to be ok? it looks like its fitted ok if slightly wider. is this correct???
bike 2010 te 310

thanks

Andy

Should be fine, if I remember correctly my 09 TE510 came from the factory with a 130/80/18 mich in the rear.

is the 80 the depth so im 10mm less depth but then the knobleys are deeper so the rolling circumference is the same? the 130 is the width so its 10mm wider? does not look that its much wider? pics attached

A 130 is 130mm wide. The 80 is a percentage of the width, not the actual height in mm.

The 120 is 4mm taller from bead to tread, and 8mm taller from the ground to the top of the tire. 1/3". That's pretty minimal.

I thought all TEs came with 140/80x18s stock? But I could be wrong.

In 130/80/18 the 130 refers to the width in mm (130mm), the 80 refers to the aspect ratio between the tires width and it height, so...80% of 130 is 104mm in height, and obviously the 18 is rim size in inches.

120/90/18 = 120mm wide, 108mm tall, 18" rim
130/80/18 = 133mm wide, 104mm tall, 18" rim

Hope this helps

ahh think i get it.. so from this the only thing to check then is that the tyre clears the exhaust on full rear suspension compress... got to say the tyre looks like its so going to hook up it mud...

cant wait to try it out on sunday....
any ideas on what tyre pressure i should run it at.. will be a local enduro through woods with the odd log to cross was thinking about 12psi (no logic behind that figure)

just note... the wider the tyre the les hook up the lower the profile easier to get pinch flats note i left those big tyres and went 110-100-18 on my te 450 not good sizing for the road

12 to 14 psi is the norm

husky bom... thats not what i want to hear... do you think the small difference in depth makes a huge difference? im not bothered about the less hook up the tyres have so much tread compared to the set i took off.., more bothered about getting the pinch flat..
is it best to run the psi harder to compensate??

The biggest issue is over tyreing a small bore bike. A 130 is more a 450 tyre. A 250/310 should be on 110's or 120 max. Over tyreing drains engine power and will cause additional engine wear (albeit very incrementally). It will also slow directional change (the reason you got a 310 rather than a 450). An 80 height with ultra heavy tubes is probably ok at 12 psi.

Im at the same cross roads... My stock mich is 140/80-18 on TE 510. I want a smaller tire and I thought a 120/ 90 looked good. they werent mounted but maybe 1/2 " shorter?? Is that too small of a jump? Shoul I go with 130/80 18?

similar thread on the two stroke page..

i posted this there as a review to my new rear tyre
Guys I just did an enduro at the week end on a new mich s12 xc 130 80 18 on my te 310 the standard tyre is a mich comp 3 120 90 18.. it is a little wider & 4mm lower in profile but this new tyre is amazing on grass, mud the grip is amazing...it gave me sooooooooooooo much confidence especially on negative camber grass/mud corners.. i was able to feed the power and gain on other bikes out the corners easypeasy..
to follow on further at my enduro most of the guys on 250 were running this tyre in this size. yes i was sad and checked them out! some of the riders were top drawer quality.
Having an championship expert riding the same tyres was a good endorsement imo. they have obviously gone through the testing phase...
i spend far too much time checking things out, as one chap said.. less reading more riding..

I was actually planning on running a 130 S12 next time- currently have a 140 S12 on the rear of my 09TE450. Have run the 130 on my Ktm 351cc 4st EXC and its been great (as stated would probably go smaller on this bike- though hit hasn't seemed to be a problem for my 351cc). 130 will turn a little better without giving much up elsewhere compared to the 140.

So what does everyone think of the Mich Comp 3 Front tires? It seemed to last awhile and I remember good hook up- I am running a Pirelli 32 front and hook up has been great but it is loosing edge quick- no real loss in traction though. Might just go to a full set of S12's again. If you can avoid pavement or "slickrock" they seem to work well for a long time.
