• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I've been lurking for about a month now, finally decided to make an account.

Hello Everyone,

My quick story. I've never "OWNED" a bike before, but have rode many. So I've finally decided that I'm going to purchase a bike. A Dual Purpose. A bike that I can go on the streets or take it off road and hit some jumps/hill climbing/ect. At 1st, before I did any research, I wanted a 2013 Kawasaki. Our local salesman was trying to push the 250cc on me. But my concern is that I would "OUT GROW" it. So, I started to look at the 2013 Suzuki DRZ400s. Nice bike but its HEAVY. But I wanted something more..more CC and more of a aggressive dirt bike look. I knew KTM/Husky were out of the question until I found out about the "up to $2500 off" deal going on now. That makes the Huskys more affordable for my budget. I took a look at the line and I've finally decided to purchase a TE511. I've been researching the 511 and the only negatives that I have read is that the seat is rock hard and the engine vibrates during break in period. No big deal in my eyes, I can upgrade the seat and with time the engine will get smoother...(to a point)

Now that I have the money to purchase a 511, I'm debating now, whether or not to wait for the 2014 511's or to just get a 2013 and start riding! :)

Here are my questions...

1 - Does anyone have any inside info about the 2014 line (especially the TE511 or 512(If they call it that this year))?

2 - Since KTM bought out Husky...Will the 2014's have a KTM engine or will it still have a BMW engine?

3 - Anyone know where I can purchase a new 2013 TE511? I'm in Michigan and both dealers are sold out... :( One has a 449 but I would rather get the 511.

Thank you guys!!!

Since BMW just sold Husky to the same parent co who owns KTM the bikes are on sale. The 449 and 511 engines were of BMW origin so they will likely be discontinued. If you can find a 449 or 511 jump on it. Even if there are 2014 models I doubt we will see the same pricing.

I bought the 511 but only because I weigh 230. If you can get the 449 local from a dealer who has a good reputation and promises to serve you going forward I would do that as opposed to driving 4+ hours to find the 511, especially if you've never owned a bike before.

You say you've ridden many... how many? what is your intended purpose? the 511 SUCKS in the tight singletrack, but open desert is awesome.

i;ve been riding for almost 30 years, and i hate to throw a leg over my dad's 511. the thing is a f*****g beast. the 310 is much nicer for my tight. technical, singletrack style

my local dealer looks to have both a 511 and 449 in stock.

I'm 230 pounds and the 250/310 are plenty fast so I wouldn't worry about that. I only prefer the 449 because I'm lazy and like having the torque. Like someone else had said, the 449 would be a great option too. You can always order from a place likes bills motorcycles plus or tri county powersports (both site sponsors) and just have it shipped. Good luck with whatever you decide. The 449 feels much taller and heavier than a 310 too, just something to consider being relatively new to riding. Husky, like the other manufacturers, doesn't really make a bad bike. I'd go sit on all the models and get a feel for it. The 449/511 seem either loved or hated (I for one love the 449) and everyone loves the 310 so again, something to consider.

I have both a 449 and a 511. I dont think there is a compelling reason to ignore a 449 if thats what you have available.
