  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

to keep or to sell ?

i recently brought a 2008 tc250 for rather cheap and have tided it up and done one trail ride on the bike which i enjoyed bike ran great apart from having slight issues hot starting but i was geting the hang of it by the end. bikes up to 151 hours and i have no motor history apart from getting the valves checked and a compression test done when i first got it do you think its worth putting a new piston in it and riding it for another 20-30 hours and selling it or selling it now and make some money off it ?

Putting it up for sale might answer that question because you will find out if anyone wants it and how much it is really worth on the sales block.

I would check the valve gaps, read the manual on piston times etc but shouldnt worry bout that as my 2stroke 360 done over 180 hours.
A four pop should just keep going.

Valves were checked at 147 they are within spec and motor had 180. Psi of compression this being my first 4 stroke im abit nervous as in my option 150 hours is quite a bit

Valves arent the issue on those motors. The connecting rod will seize first. From my experience with those motors, the rod is on borrowed time.

So you think I'm prob best to sell it unless I'm prepared to split the cases ?

No ride it untill it fails then sell it as a project, as with anything you dont know how long it will last.
3minuites 3 years? Who knows just ride it and ditch it when she breaks your heart!

I'm not that kind of guy really I like my bikes mint but you could be right bike cost $1280 things to think about I'll ride it a bit more any way

Well in bits stripped out what you talking 600-800 dollars ?
Thats cheap fun if it lasts a year.
If it goes for longer excellent if it goes tomorrow then not so good but you will still get a return on it.

Just to be clear the rods on the 250 are not a big failure part and I have seen a lot of 250 huskys. The valve train on those bikes are super reliable as well.

3k well if you sell it how reliable is the newer bike?
Its your call but i would ride it till she gave out, fix her tgen ride it till something else gave out.
I fix all my stuff mates aswell irs really not hard if your though and patient.

I do everything I can but ive never done engine work to worried about stuffing it up...., I was going to try get a 2011 plus 450 less strain on motor mainly. I ride for fun track and trail with couple race days. I priced up parts for top end $195. Wossner piston and about. 130 for gasgets maybe I could do that and put another 30 hours on it?

Hunh- I guess I'm in the minority here... because I think if you can get $3000 for an '08 TC I'd sell it fast and buy a bike I was in love with, like the 450 you mentioned. Of course, if I had a TC250... It would probably be love.

good luck.

IMO - put it up for sale for slightly above-market price - with offer to trade for the bike you really want. Meanwhile, ride the crap out of it and keep up on the maintenance.

With $1,280 into the bike, it's still valuable even if you blow up the engine. You could get a lot of your money back just by selling the wheels and plastics - and there are plenty more marketable parts (suspension, bars, controls, etc,) after that.

FWIW - I planned to ride my previous Husky (2006 TE510) until it died. But I just couldn't kill it... Finally sold it for cheap after there were too many little things wrong with it. Like ray_ray, I think these 4t motors last way longer than the recommended rebuild times. I think a lot depends on how you ride - racing is hard on engines and I don't race.

Bike market is very different in new zealand husqvarna isnt that common so I dont think there would be a huge need for parts. 1280 is what I brought it for im probably up to about 1800 new fork seals shock serviced new linkage bearings valves checked and compression check new rear tire oil and filter change and new rad fulid

Oh - I assumed you were in US; no location listed on your profile. Still seems a good value for the bike you have - and maybe worth selling/trading if you are sure that you'd really prefer something else.

Yeah sorry I'll update that. Yeah has been cheap I just don't want it to blow up on me as then it would become expensive if you know what I mean. Not really sure what I want I've only owned 2 strokes untill now so it's all new for me

Did you buy it to flip it or ride it? If you bought it to ride it then ride it. If you got it cheap and are afraid to hurt it so you can make money, then make it Purdy and list it on your favorite site.
