• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Touratech handguard replacement?

So my TR650 took it's 4th spill. I have not been on the bike for any of them. This time I was rolling onto the lift and the kickstand was down. Anyway my right-side Touratech handguard broke along with my brake lever. I have a replacement brake lever that I bought as a spare for my old BMW 650.

So does Touratech mold their own handguards? Or are there copies from other companies? Or anything close that I can use the same mounting hardware?

Good question...I took one apart thinking about swapping out to fat bars.
TT looks to have it's own way of doing things, a small screw threaded through the guard, spacer, and bar-end weight into a bar insert.
Most guards are a single (larger) bolt that goes either into a tapped bar or an expandable bar insert.
If I go to fat bars I figured I'd drill out the bar end weight and use the larger bolt and insert.
These are chreap and available.

Who makes's em? Could be either Acerbis or Polisport.
Probably can't buy just one...but worth asking the TT chat guy, usually Ian.

They should work on most any commercial bars that have a standard I.D.
Most commercial fat bars and skinny bars both have the same I.D., Pro Taper, Renthal, whatever.
What I was saying before about the Husky bar end weights is they have a smaller screw than normal that screws the handguard and the weight to the bars.
My plan is to drill that bar end weight hole bigger to fit whatever my insert of choice will have.

Google handlebar inserts.

BTW MadDog. Are you one of those wild and crazy XR1200 riders from Bakersfield?

Yes I am. And thanks for the info.

Chat wasn't working so I called and the part is on the way for about 1/3 of the price of the entire set.

Not many people even know about XR1200's. I'm guessing you are one of the lucky few?

...'at's great. I reckon you just busted a clamp or insert?
Mike told me you had a Terra wondering if I bought yours because I bought mine in Bakersfield.
I do believe we rode together one time on a wild lap through the Sequoia's.

No, I actually busted the plastic hand guard itself.

I do remember. Around May 31. We are going to Santa Barbara this year. I have 3 XR1200's now. The mileage will be dropping a bit on the XR's with my KTM 1290 Super Adventure.

I see, couldn't stay away from the Orange only a different flavor ;)
Loved my 950A. one of the best ever...
