• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Update ITC shocks or change them ?

Hi. I would like to update/improve my rear suspension from my Husky CR500 1983.
I see that i have two options, or to improve the ITC Ohlins, or to buy another shocks.
New shocks could have external setup for the hydraulics, that is a plus.
But, what about the Gold Valve of RaceTech ? Can i change the shims to improve it, anybody did this to share it?
I know that there is cost difference on both choices, but, i see that the ITC Ohlins are very good IMHO, may be they need a good setup/update?
Or is it worth the money to buy a ISS, GAZI, WORKSPERFOMANCE, etc ?
Thank you for the advice and the experience that you had with the solutions exposed.

Husky ITC shocks were the premium shock , back in the day, if you planning on Vintage MX, i'd just have them rebuilt. I race a 80 390CR, 83 250CR, 430CR & 510TX all with ITC on them & if there rebuilt right there gold . The thing with the ITC 's
is the 1st part of the stroke seem too soft when you 1st sit on the bike, there not. The bigger the whoops the better my Huskys
like it, i've pass plenty on the worst sections of the track.

Thanks John. I rebuilt the shocks, in a shop and i think with good oils. With all new seals and rings.
I had a race this last week end and i felt that after 10 minutes the shocks are more bumpy and very hard to open gas on bumpy areas.
I have to say that most of all the bikes on the category has a lot of new Ohlins or YSS with adjustable hydraulics.
What are the parameters that should i change, oil quality, hydraulics setup, etc.

I've had a bunch rebuilt by Drew Smith , a sponsor on this site (WER Products.net), don't know all the details that Drew preformed, but they work awesome :applause:.
Contact Drew , i'm 100% sure he can help you.

Only one pair for me, so far, but I second the opinion!

Drew's reputation for Ohlins work is fantastic, yes. I haven't personally tried his yet, although my last Ohlins went to Ohlins USA in North Carolina. It was phenomenal.

If you do a seach on the forum there is info on revalving the itcs. I got help from another member (pncd?)when doing my 510, and they went from terrible to fantastic - took 4 goes though..
they are a vary tunable shock in my opinion, just a fiddly to open up, but can be done in a couple of hours
