• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

value Check 1981-82 XC430 pic and should I buy it?

Looking at this tomorrow; asking 800; what's it worth? I love the big bore bikes!

Check it out real good. I dislike buying bikes that have been sand thrashers (rear tire). Check the frame for cracks and motor for sand. Judging from the sand tire and all the rusty bits I'd say it spent a lot of time at the dunes which IMHO is really hard on bikes.

I think an '82 should have a black tank and unpainted jug/head, and the '81 should have a blue tank, shouldn't it? I think the red tanks for those years were CR's?

looks rusty and probably needs more than few parts...if it ran well or better yet passed a compression test it would be worth it...shocks leaking?

Does it run? If it does and the compression is good I think it is a good price.
I don't like to see or hear about paddles on bikes I'm looking at. It could turn into a bargaining chip for you though.:excuseme:
I have a 81 XC 430 that is sitting in front of the "resto line" in the shop and need to get started on it.

I love the red tank. Is the tank on this one pretty straight?
I'm sure some of the "Left Kicker" pros will come along soon.

WOW that was quick; thanks for the input! I think it's a CR tank, I'll check the frame for cracks (thanks for the reminder!), tank has a couple of dings and not running at this time, rear shocks will probably need a recharge or rebuild. Missing brake rod and kickstand otherwise complete. I fully agree the sand tire scares me and I do not like to think she was trashed in the dunes; but these don't come along very often somewhat complete. If it has spark and compression I will probably but her; but things always look better in pictures.
Thanks again!

Tank & shocks are worth $ 200 ea, if it kicks over & shifts threw all the gears, even if it don't runs, it worth it.

She's home, very complete and shifts thru the gears and kicks over. But low on compression so maybe a top end? The problem is I'm not a mechanic so should I keep her or sell it and buy something that is running? If anybody is interested let me know as I have 4 other bikes in front of it for restoration so may be a couple of years before I get to it. Just thinking; but after a 7 hour drive I could not leave empty handed, oh well she looks cool in the gargage. THANKS for all the HELP!
Ed

OK so it looks like it is probably a pretty good buy. The White outline of the polished part of the Tank tells me its a 81. The Black Cylinder also sez its an 81. However it looks as though the Swing Arm Bolt passes threw the Engine, which would make it an 82. Dose the Frame pass over the rear Fender or is it cut off at the seat? Is there a Frame tube passing under the middle of the Engine? The Cr's have neither. I'm going to say its a mix of parts. Run the serial Number off the Frame, look to see if any of the Engine #'s match.
Now that You own it the hardest to find and most valuable parts are the Tank, The Main Engine Cases and the Clutch Cover. If the Rims are round and have some color left that's a nice perk. Moister rots out the Main cases look under the crank and see if there is anything looking amiss at the seam. Since the Engine turns over that's a good sign that's its not rusted. The Clutch cover Cracks at the Kick Start, and anywhere else a rock gets to it. Wheels are easy to come by but they cost so much to ship You might as well buy new Rims if they are needed. Suspension, Frames and pretty much anything else is easy to come by, they are probably on e-bay right now. I see its missing the Plastic side panels, DC plastics are the only option for new.

1981 was the first year that bolt was through the cases on the 430 only. No doubt this is a 1981

I see the Husqvarna-Parts now has Side Panels available for these Bikes. So I gave bad info saying that DC was the only source.
