  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Weird clacking noise while rolling with clutch pulled

Freekman

Husqvarna
AA Class
When I stop to park my bike I usually turn it off and let it roll to position while in first and the clutch pulled. I haven't had time to ride in like a week, but this week whenever i do that i get the clack clack clack sound that is pretty rapid and dependent on the speed. I can hear it a little if I just push the bike, but I don't hear it when the bike is in neutral. it is pretty hard to hear exactly where it is coming from but I definitely think it is the engine and not the wheels or anything. It is colder this week, but not that much.

also bike seems to run fine with no noise when on

it is definitely coming from the clutch. here is a video of what it sounds like

Hi, I'm at work so blocked from videos.
Just a thought, how worn are your sprockets? It could be the chain hooking on the teeth of the sprocket as you roll to a stop.
This can happen even with only a little wear, an easy test is to roll the bike backwards & forwards.
If it makes more noise rolling backwards, I'd say sprocket wear.

i don't think so, especially since it doesn't make any noise when in neutral. sprockets look ok too

So I took it too a shop and he said it was a bearing in the clutch. So now begins that fun process. Any tips or advice for these clutches?

From the posts on around the site, nobody has much clutch trouble at all.
Some have had torque limiter failures which is like a limited slip unit just after the clutch.

Nobody, but me. the main locknut was just rattling around in the basket...not securing anything. The plates all looked ok, but the nut is a little thrashed. Glad I stopped riding when I did. Does anybody know if this locknut matches any other less rare bikes have a nut with the same specs, so I don't have to wait a million weeks for a replacement.

If your dealer doesn't stock it, be sure and check with Hall's or Motoxotica as they will make an effort to check with other shops and get you the part.

Good luck.

Yeah, I don't have a dealer haha. I bought the bike like 2 hours from where I live. I thought maybe we would share this nut with KTM or something. I am on halls right now

The BMW GX450 is the same if you have a BMW dealer anywhere nearby. Only it & the te/tc series are the same.
At least as you said, you caught it early enough

Don't mean to hijack, But my 511 rattles like crazy in neutral. Pull the clutch and the noise goes. I wonder if it's the same thing?

Mine too, I had to double check the stickers after I bought it. Could've sworn I got a Husky, but sounds like a Ducati. At least they're both Italian.

Nothing wrong with Dukes Husky :D
One of my riding mates collects them, he has a one of only 3 left of some model....
He's got about 30 in total, some ex-race bikes etc lovely to look at & he rides them every now & then as well.

Agreed, they're neat bikes, but they certainly have the noisy clutch market cornered. The first time I heard a Duc dry clutch I thought the thing was falling apart. I certainly hope be shares the wealth with his friends! That's a lot of Italian girls to keep happy.
