  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What Bike Stand Do You Use

Ok gang, it's time to replace my 5 gallon paint pail (totally uncool in public) with a real stand for my 84 WR. For those folks with the center frame rail below the engine (which prevents it from sitting flat and straight on anything flat and straight), what do you use and what tricks do you have for a real bike stand.

I'd like to get the kind where you put it under the bike and step on a pedal to raise the bike. Though due to that center frame rail, I know I'm going to have to rig something up to the top of the stand so the bike doesn't tip over the minute I turn my back.

But there's also those old-school pivot stands; the kind with the long handle, you know, put the stand under the frame - handle is vertical. Push the handle backwards and the bike stand pivots up against the frame. Nice thing there is it would only contact the outer frame rails and not the center at all elminating that whole issue.

Thoughts? Cares? Criticisms?

'83 250 XC that I use mostly for Vintage MX...Here is the stand I bought:

http://www.rockymountainatv.com/pro...tle=Tools/Shop&webCatId=22&prodFamilyId=23031

Tusk Adjustable Lift Stand...I cut 2 pieces of 2 x 4 (wood) to length, drilled some holes in the top of the stand with corresponding holes in the 2 x 4 (countersunk), mounted the 2 pieces of 2 x 4 to the outer edges of the top of the stand to allow the center frame rail to clear when the stand is in use.

It's not a long term solution, as the wood gets beaten up over time. But it's been 8 months and is still serviceable. I would prefer a longer term solution, but.....it was what I came up with at the time.

I have also been told by 2 different Husky grey beards that the center tube can be cut out (removed) without issue. That I will consider this summer when it all comes apart to repaint the frame.

Use the levers for when riding, basic garage maintenance and storage. Ez up - ez down. Need that in my sorry ass shape. Work on uneven ground. Never buy anything else.

Downside - clumsy to transport and a little overweight.

Use the boxes for major repairs. Stable w/ wheels off. Stack as high I want. Jerry rig w/ 2x4s or they "give" under the weight of the bike and the center rail is not an isse. They stay at home.

Hydraulic jack for the big bike and loan out to neighbors. Overkill for our dirt bikes.

I use the DRC HC2 adjustable lift. I can hoist my Beemer with this thing.

Yeah the center tube can be a pain in the butt.

I screwed 2"x3" peices of wood to the pail with deck screws, leaving the center tube area open, spray it flat black.

Sold my OR so i never find a better stand.

Don't wreck the frame by cutting the tube off, it's only original once.

I am thinking about getting a rear wheel lift. I have one bike with a downpipe & need it for that BUT ..I think the rear wheel lift will be useful for my Huskies too & I wont have have bring out the bigger 'jack'. anyone have any experience with these rear wheel stands?.. I dont want one that will "scoot" across the floor or "pop Up" essentially letting the bike down..

I have a pretty red GasGas one that came without the GasGas stickers on it. GoFasters promised me stickers ASAP... A YEAR AGO! So to answer I have a pretty red stand that matches my Husky.:D

i built a couple rear wheel triangle stands, you need a large inner diameter on the axle to make it work though, 09 CR125 allows a 3/4 tube to go inside it. Works good but you need something else to work on the front end with the CR. I also need to put a jagger on tube that touches the dirt to keep it from skidding when popping the bike up. Easy to make a crude one with a chop saw, some round stock and a welder.

I just had to buy the first bike stands I've ever purchased. I'm just gearing up to get back into riding, and I always used metal wire milk crates, previously. The oblong jobs (rectangle), so they are tall enough. Those grew legs somewhere along the last 15+ years or so of my being out of the fun, and I don't see them in or by trash cans nowadays. So, litterally new stands it was.

Just bought 2 different ones, and received them both this past week.

First one I bought, and was a little reluctant due to the material it's made of, is this Acerbis job. I figured if I make a point to only use it on my bikes indoors, that the outside conditions won't make the plastic deteriorate and it might last. Plus, it has kinda bigger footprints, which I also liked.

It is the only one I've tossed a bike up onto yet. Just put my '88 510 on it. I was real glad I bought both stands with the center hole, as I wasn't even thinking about the center frame bar as causing issues. Learned real quick as I put the bike on the stand, that she ain't safe to let go of, till that bar is centered adequately in the whole/recess. Then, she is nice and stable. Would have been SOL, if I had bought stands in this gen style that didn't have the center hole. As when I initially got the bike up, and was looking down thinking I've got it on there possibly enough, she wanted to go right over (luckily towards me and I still had hands on it).

Other stand I just received was this one. It will have a bike on it here shortly. I have bikes indoors, and in outside storage. Still being stuck in AZ, heat is brutal on things. So, as mentioned, the Acerbis one will never be out dealing with the heat, but this Moose Racing one will be out there shortly. I'm planning on getting one of those basic lever lift ones like was mentioned, for use out riding. As well, since I'm real old school in some ways, I'm already looking for the appropriate metal wire milk crates, as that would be more of my style and cheap. Plus the crates can hold other things when not in use, a little more than these modern flashy stands can.

I use my old street bike universal stands that I got from Cycle Gear. They are about $50 each. But these would be really secure if used with swing arm and fork spools.

I use the one bolted to the swing arm.....:D and a lift stand with a piece of wood with v notch in it for the centre rail. it seems to work ok.
