just a question about the "cannister" on your bikes overthere what does it do?

Hi everyone,
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

It's a charcoal canister through which the tank's vent hose and carburetor vents run so that there aren't any evaporative fuel emissions. i.e., when the fuel evaporates from the tank or carb, it doesn't vent to the atmosphere. The charcoal absorbs/neutralizes the fuel vapors.

i could see why the um fall off being in the position they are, i had a xr650L before the husky and it had some contraption on it like that which sort of fell off. greenies eh they just dont want anyone having any fun do they?

Oh...you're right. Sorry about that.
It's an '09 TE310. Just bought 3 days ago, and still stock when the canister came off. I plugged up the hose going to the back of the cylinder, and that's when it started running bad. It sputtered, flammed out, and just stalled repeatedly. The canister went back on until I can figure it out so at least it would run half way decent.

Thanks... That's actually helps me to verify that I did it correctly the first time, but it still ran crappy. Tried it again, only this time took off the throttle stop, and removed cat from mid-pipe. Actually runs now, and better, but still does backfire quite a bit with an occational flame-out, and doesn't like low throttle much. Maybe the real fix will be when I get the Lamda plug in, and the better air filter cage with some break-in time on it. And then maybe bring to a dealer who knows what they're doing for an electronic tune on the map...yes?

This was covered a while back on TT. If you look under the seat (I think-been awhile since I noticed it) There is a sticker that shows how the tubes are routed. It will help you redo everything. Basically, you need to hook it all up the same way, but you need some longer tubing. I still have mine on the bike. It doesn;t hurt anything and doesn't add much weight. If you wait long enough, something will eventually rip it off anyway. That's what I'm waiting for. Anyhow, everything is vented to this cannister. Everything that is attacehd to it is something that needs to vent. Don't plug up anything. Buy some hose and just run them all out to atmosphere. Use the diagram on the sticker for help.
