• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Sorry If I'm Beating A Dead Horse, But I Like To Consolidate Information.

I Found A Similar Post Elsewhere, But About Halfway Through Answering Questions The Thread Got High-Jacked And Never Fully Answered.

I'm About To Pick Up A "New" '09 SM610 From A Dealer, 0 Miles On The Bike.

From What I Understand Already There Are A Few Things That Should Be Done Straight Out The Door:

- Remove The Extra Emissions BS (Is There A Walk-Through On This Somewhere?)
- Remove 02 Sensor And Replace With Plug (Walk-Through?)
- Remove The Throttle Restrictor
- "Power Up Kit" (What Is This Exactly, Walk-Through?)
- De-Cat The Existing Pipe Or Get An After Market One

Did I Miss Anything?

What Is The Break-In Period On These? Do I Need To Wait Till After The Break-In Period For Any Of The Mods Listed Above?

Any Other Advice For A Newby Would Also Be Appreciated.

You could leave it all on for the first 5-600 miles. It took me about 30 hours to get 600 miles on my 08 TE250 but an SM should do it in half that. By that time you'll be able to search everything and get the info consolidated. You should get a box of stuff from the dealer that has at least part of what you'll need. You can usually find all this information in the end of the Shop Manual for the bike. That you might find the manual on line or you could possibly get a digital copy from your dealer for $10 or so. If I can locate the shop manual on line I'll link it here.

Congratulations on your new SM610.

Buy a slip-on pipe - Leo Vince X3 for around $350 - buy a $50 Lambda sensor removal kit consisting of a plug and washer for the removed Lambda sensor hole and the resistor end for where the Lambda sensor wire used to connect under the gas tank. Then you will have to adjust your idle down a few hundred rpm's and you are all set. You can have your bike ripping for around $400. Removing the smog shit is mainly for looks and less weight and is also very easy.
