• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Here's the story:

Been bouncing off the walls for weeks getting ready for the D38/Interstate 8 Dezert Racers "Speedlimit 100" race out at Plaster City, CA. I mean, I was pumped. I had mised the previous events either to work or illness.
While in camp, after a ride with my Brother, I glanced over at the bike and something didn't look right:

This is the evening before the race, mind you. I called all over the place - even called Forza in Escondido, CA (which never called me back, by the way). I was willing to drive back to San Diego if I could get my hands on a kickstart assy. BTW, not one Husky dealer in all of the Imperial Valley. Oh sure, there's a Beta dealership, but not a Husky dealership.

With my dreams of becoming the next Malcom Smith/JN Roberts/Steve McQueen dashed (although I am almost as cool as Steve McQuen already), I resorted to my backup plan:

The next event is to be at Pala Raceway in May. Maybe something positive will happen by then.

Admittedly, a kickstarter is not an item that any motorcycle dealer usually stocks.... If you are like me, at least for a while you'll keep imagining your kickstart lever lying in the dirt somewhere out on the trail.

Did you retrace any of your route to see if you could find it?

Bills had 2 125 kick starters in stock when I broke mine.

Yup, took the Jeep out and combed the entire area from our camp, to the hills and back. Nada....

S,
Anything like this happens again and I'm not in the wilds of Tecate/Baja. Call me, my "sponsor" GP would for sure allow us to rob one from an in stock bike in an "emergency" case like this. Also I still have my TE310 and would have gladly yanked it for you. R

Thanks Rob. Hopefully I don't have to go through it again.

Another lesson for the constantly go through the machine pre and post ride inspections for torque, missing items and potential failures.
from our ride, I lost a forward pipe guard screw and thankfully right near (within 1/2 mile) the finish of our ride -my 02 sensor bung (ok beavis and butthead) plug came out.
I thought that friggan Honda that I was following lost his silencer until I realized it was my bike making all the racket. I looked for the plug and did not find it. (went to the hardware store got a 14mm -1mm thread pitch bolt and cut it off to good length, the dang crush washer stayed in place so I have a cad steel bolt screwed in my BUNG now****************************************!

I "usually" do the pre-ride inspect. The one thing I didn't check happenend to be the one thing I lost. I've got one on order now (96.00). Not happy about the wait (10 days).

If you are needing one ..like today until your comes in, to ride hit me up, borrow my used one and hand it back when your new one comes in. I've got my bikes in C-Nado.

whats missing in that picture? loctite and a pre-ride bolt check! sorry....couldnt resist. i feel ya.
