  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Most miles where you never pulled the motor apart. Stock valves, piston etc. Whatcha got? 4stokes only.

Customer was in last week with 89,259 miles on a 2001 SMR610 changed 1 cam chain 5000 miles ago. Think slide in carb being worn makes more noise than the piston.

WOW. This is a post in response to the 2st / 4st cost threads, just wondered ho many miles you can get out of a 4st before tearing into it.

I believe my local dealer has some customers with over 20,000 miles on their 06-09 TE450/510 & SMR's........

Nice to know these bikes can go forever. I put 650 miles on my SMR last year. At that rate it'll last a few years!

Perhaps this should be detailed whether the bike is a older design single cam(which are arguably less stressed), the 03-10 twin cam, or the new x-light 250-310 and BMW motors....

One of my 250s (07) has about 5500 miles(9000km) on it(original parts except top end gaskets), but I know there are similar bikes out there with a lot more........

2007 SM610 had obnoxious piston slap at 23k miles and had already had a timing chain, bottom ended needed freshening up too upon inspection. Bike was not babied however.

Less than 1500 on the '06 Te450, but I almost blew the engine yesterday after the cylinder head gasket failed and blew out oil. Good thing my buddy saw the smoke and oil only 9 miles in to our ride when I stopped to ponder making a right or left. Not sure if I did not seat it just right or what? Gotta take it apart again next weekend.
