  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

WR wheel on CR - '80

getoverload

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi, does someone know hot to use a WR rear wheel on CR bike, years '82 - '83 (and may be others).
The rear brake plate are different, with different connection with the frame, but may be someone has find the solution. Possibly a different size-thickness of the bushing of the brake plate??
Thanks

1st off why? You loose the floating action of the brake, the CR needed.

If it's because, you can't find a CR backing plate, then

1) you need either to find a WR swingarm & braking arm or you need to custom make a bracket to attach the arm to a CR swingarm.
2) You also need to shim the backing plate on the inside, so the hub doesn't rub & use a different outside space in between the swingarm & backing plate.

Seems to me alot of work, i think i'd try seeing if a front wheel hub could be used instead, as i'm 99% surewr backing plate.jpg the brake shoes are the same front or rear.

I agree with RUFO. Why go through all the trouble. Much easier and better to get the correct CR brake and wheel if needed. They are not hard to find.

Thanks Rufwo. I have both CR braking plate and WR braking plate, and I would use my WR wheel because is 18 (easy to find tires) on my CR, that is 17.
So, I have to put a different shim in the WR bracking plate. Not impossible! And I think is also not impossible to make a bracket to connect the WR plate to the swingarm.
I thought someone had already done it and just asking some suggestion, may be is useful for other people.
thanks,
ciao

All good, post your results

So, an update that can be useful if someone wants to put a WR rear wheel on CR - model 1982 (may be the same for 1980 1981, 1983).
You need to have the whole WR rear wheel with brake plate and the aluminium Arm that locks the plate with the swingarm, and the steel lanyard that connect the brake foot lever to the brake lever that is on the brake plate.

First you have to make an hole on the aluminium Arm - see the first pic - so you can use the same bolt that holds the chain guide (see the arrow) - you have to put there a little bit longer bolt.
Then you have to use the CR connecting lanyard instead of the steel long rod (because the brake system now is not floating).

LAST THING, the original CR bushing (spacer, cod. Husqvarna 15-16-753-01) on the left side of the hub is too long (may be because I have an '83 or '84 WR rear wheel), so you have to put a shorter one:
CR is 31 mm., the one you need is 27 (not difficult to make).
Obviously you have to remove the CR floating aluminium arm connected to the frame.
Everything is easy to put back as before, to standard situation.
